We are currently looking for one Naval Science Instructor who focuses on teaching the NJROTC curriculum and instilling leadership, discipline, and teamwork in students. This position manages resources, organizes extracurricular activities, and maintains connections with school staff and the community to support program goals.
What You Will Do:
- Teach the specified 3- or 4-year Naval Science curriculum, ensuring students receive in-depth knowledge and understanding of course material.
- Facilitate and instruct students in military drills, fostering teamwork, precision, and discipline.
- Provide guidance and counseling to students, focusing on their academic and personal development within the ROTC program.
- Develop, update, and execute lesson plans, ensuring alignment with the ROTC curriculum and educational goals.
- Handle the requisition of government-provided equipment, such as uniforms, training aids, and instructional materials, maintaining proper inventory and control.
- Organize and manage extracurricular activities, including color/honor guard ceremonies, competitive meets, field trips, and leadership training events.
- Prepare and submit regular reports regarding program administration and logistics to ensure smooth operation and maintain accountability.
- Stay informed about new developments and attend training sessions to align with current program requirements.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with school counselors, faculty, and staff to support and enrich the NJROTC program.
- Stay updated with the latest instructional methodologies, curricular innovations, and assessment strategies.
- Design comprehensive lesson plans that successfully achieve state learning standards and specific grade-level expectations outlined by the charter.
- Provide both direct and indirect instructional support to students.
- Engage in long-term and short-term strategic planning tailored to meet individual student needs.
- Prepare students thoroughly for all required assignments and assessments.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress systematically.
- Utilize student assessment data to inform and guide effective instruction.
- Compile and present at least quarterly individual student achievement reports to parents.
- Create a stimulating, engaging, and innovative learning environment for students.
- Implement effective and appropriate classroom management techniques.
- Embrace and integrate feedback and coaching from school administrators.
- Act as a mentor and advisor to students, including organizing advisory groups and overseeing their academic and behavioral development.
- Leverage technology to enrich and support instruction.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring:
- An earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Completion of Navy NJROTC instructor certification process required
- A California Designated Special Subjects Teaching Credential authorizing service as an administrator and instructor in a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program must be in force and on file in the Office of the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools.
- An English Learners authorization is required.
- Rank requirements:
- o E-5 through E-9
- o WO-1 through WO-5 or O-1, O-2 with prior enlisted service
- At least five years of ROTC experience as an instructor or deputy director.
- An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard from a regionally accredited college or university desirable
- Tuberculosis (TB) test clearance is required
- Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan clearance is required
