EIS Environmental and Permitting Solutions, LLC. (EIS Environmental) is seeking an Ecologist to join our team! Our team is made up of experienced environmental and permitting professionals based in Bayfield, Colorado. We work collaboratively to address environmental challenges through innovation and common-sense problem-solving. Our key staff has worked in the private sector as well as in regulatory agencies and now provides clients with experience-based land use and environmental planning, permitting, and environmental compliance services. We work on projects across a broad range of market sectors, bringing a proactive and collective approach to environmental compliance and permitting, supported by a comprehensive understanding of both natural and regulatory environments.

Job Description:

The Ecologist plays an active role in the development, planning, and report preparation of field sampling events and project permitting processes. This position will require both field surveys (plants, wildlife, soil, etc.) and well written technical documents. The ecologist should have a strong background in Inter-Mountain West flora and fauna, as well as a firm knowledge base in their associated soils, hydrology, and ecological systems. This position requires strong writing, computer, and communication skills, and sharp attention to detail. The individual must work effectively with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in an inter-disciplinary team. General knowledge of the oil and gas industry and familiarity with current Regional, Tribal, State, and Federal environmental regulations is a bonus.

This position will be based out of our Bayfield, Colorado Office with field work needed throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. As an ecologist, you will work directly with clients and senior staff as well as internal and external specialists in their fields. Tasks may include in-field biological surveys, preparations of reports or forms, editing and review of documents, and various other tasks.

Compensation and Benefits:

· Part time to Full Time Position

· Wage Range: $30 - $40 an hour based on experience

Essential Job Responsibilities:

· Conduct wildlife/plant habitat assessments and surveys

· Sensitive species surveys and studies

· Prepare biological assessments/evaluations and survey reports

· Provide knowledge and expertise across all environmental media and programs, including Endangered Species Act (ESA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation

· Collect, compile, and analyze geospatial data using GPS equipment and GIS software

· U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and CWA 404/401 consultation, permitting and jurisdictional determinations

· Wetland delineation and reporting

· Soil surveys and soil and water testing and analysis

· Environmental compliance survey, sampling, and reporting

· Drafting Reclamation Plans, Surface Use Plan of Operations, and Plans of development to support oil and gas permits

· Conduct project onsite evaluations

· Consultation with governmental agencies

· Stormwater assessments, plans, and inspections

· Ability to travel for field work or surveys

· Other duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

· Associates and/or Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related field

· Minimum of 2 years’ experience

· Excellent verbal and technical writing and editing skills

· Experience in working with federal and tribal entities

· Ability to work with a diverse team and communicate effectively with clients, coworkers, agencies, and other personnel

· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, both independently and within a team

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Word and Excel required

· Proficiency with GIS software and GPS equipment

· Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills

· Knowledge of flora and fauna

· NEPA documentation

· Field experience in conducting biological surveys

· Knowledge of plant and animal taxonomy

EIS is an energy-related firm and our staff must be comfortable working in a collaborative mode with engineers, geologists, and construction workers from the industry. Familiarity with energy-related construction operations is important and it goes hand-in-hand with the mechanisms we implement to protect the environment. Our greatest concern is protecting the overall health of the environment-within the legal regulatory framework as it undergoes changes brought about by energy development.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
