Key responsibilities
- Strategy and policy:
- Develop, implement, and manage proactive comprehensive safety and health programs, and strategies.
- Risk management:
- Identify potential hazards and implement strategies to mitigate risks using techniques such as the implementation of the hierarchy of control principles as well as culture change initiatives
- Drive initiatives to promote incident reduction efforts.
- Compliance:
- Ensure the organization complies with relevant local, national, and sometimes international safety regulations and best practices.
- Incident investigation:
- Ensure processes are in place for the investigation of workplace incidents, near- miss incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Training and culture:
- Develop and oversee employee training programs and drive behavioral culture changes to promote a strong safety culture.
- Team management:
- Lead, manage, mentor and develop a team of Safety & Health professionals.
- Reporting:
- Oversee the maintenance of records and prepare reports on safety statistics and performance for regulatory agencies and management.
- Manage audits, root cause analysis, corrective actions and follow-up
- Reviews and analyze field data (accident reports, OSHA logs, Gemba reports, etc.) to develop risk reduction initiatives
- Report on the organization's safety and health performance.
- Manage budgets and ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
Education:
A bachelor's degree in a related field like engineering or safety management desired, master's degree in related field is a plus.
PE or CSP is preferred
Experience
- Ten years or more of experience in health and safety roles, within a manufacturing environment and a proven track record of managing safety & health programs. PE or CSP are preferred
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, safety management, best practices, ISO 45001 S&H Management Program and experience in establishing leading indicator measurements and near miss programs. Proven track record in the management and development of a team of Safety & Health professionals.
- Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and using safety management software. Essential soft skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, strong communication, and leadership abilities.

- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Project management skills, including budget and schedule management.
- Technical knowledge of Safety & Health standards, regulations, and best practices.
