Environmental Health Practitioner Department: Environmental
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 hours in the physical and/or biological sciences.
- Ability to perform technical inspections and made corrective recommendations following such inspections.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and private groups and individuals.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Job Duties:
- Reviews, permits, and inspects food service establishments. Private sewage systems and water wells.
- Must be able to explain state laws, local ordinances, rules, and regulations; offers guidance on environmental practices and principles; advises regarding improvements or corrections necessary to assure compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulat
- Complete activity reports and records of inspections; investigations, and correspondence.
- Participates in making recommendations relative to the protection and disinfection of private and non-community water samples.
- Investigates complaints involving possible sanitary violations; offers advice on solutions; makes follow-up inspections.
- Investigates insect and rodent conditions; participates in making recommendations for control programs involving abatement procedures.
- Participates in Public Health Emergency Preparedness planning, training, exercising and real-world events.
- Apply for Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner In-Training (LEHP in Training) within two years of hire.
- Obtain credentials as a Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP) within five years of becoming a LEHP In-Training.
