What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Systems Engineer position at EGLtech?
About EGLtech
EGLtech is a Security-Minded Managed IT Services Provider based in Holland, Michigan. We serve small and mid-size businesses across West Michigan — professional services, financial, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations that treat technology as a strategic asset, not just overhead.
We’re a tight-knit team. Everyone here owns their work, has direct access to leadership, and makes visible decisions that shape how our clients operate. If you’re looking for a place where your judgment matters and your work isn’t lost in a ticket queue, you’ll fit in here.
What Makes This Role Different
This is a senior-level engineering role, not a frontline help desk position. You will handle escalated technical issues, but the focus is project ownership, client infrastructure, and long-term improvement.
You will have genuine ownership over client environments, lead projects from planning through completion, and serve as a trusted technical resource for both our team and our clients.
You won’t be executing a script someone else wrote. You’ll be the person helping decide the right solution, then building it. Our clients range from small professional offices to organizations with complex infrastructure needs, which means variety, real problems, and work that actually matters.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and support Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, and hybrid cloud environments
- Lead technical projects: server migrations, cloud migrations, M365 upgrades, firewall replacements, network redesigns, backup improvements, and security hardening
- Serve as the escalation point for complex issues involving servers, networks, Microsoft 365, Azure, identity, backups, virtualization, and line-of-business applications
- Manage Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and related Microsoft services
- Configure and support firewalls, switches, wireless networks, VPNs, and VLANs
- Support virtualization, storage, and backup platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Dell, Veeam, Datto)
- Recommend practical improvements that reduce downtime, improve security, and help clients make better technology decisions
- Document work clearly, update tickets accurately, enter time consistently, and communicate professionally with clients and teammates
- Partner with our service and sales teams to scope business-focused technical solutions
What Success Looks Like
Client environments are more secure, stable, documented, and easier to support because of your work. Projects are completed cleanly, escalations are handled with ownership, and clients see you as a trusted technical advisor. Internally, your documentation and recommendations help the rest of the team deliver better service.

- 5 years of experience in MSP, consulting, or business IT infrastructure
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and identity management

- Proven ability to lead technical projects from planning through implementation
- Strong troubleshooting skills — you own issues until they’re resolved
- Clear, professional communication with both technical and non-technical clients
- Strong documentation habits and attention to detail

- Experience with HaloPSA, ConnectWise, Datto RMM, NinjaOne, or similar PSA/RMM tools

Who Thrives Here
You’ll enjoy this role if you like ownership, variety, and client-facing problem solving. You’re comfortable switching between project work, technical escalations, and strategic recommendations in the same week. You don’t wait to be told what’s broken — you spot it and fix it.
This role is not for someone looking to close tickets and go home. It’s for someone who wants to be the technical backbone of their clients’ businesses.
