Role:
Responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the mortgage loan underwriting and pre/post-closing teams. Monitors the productivity and quality of each team to ensure it meets organizational goals and contributes to exceptional member service. Performs all tasks in accordance with credit union policies and procedures and federal regulatory laws.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Directs the daily operations of the Mortgage Services Underwriting and Pre/Post-Closing teams. Oversees & evaluates products/procedures currently in place & implements changes as required to improve departmental productivity, efficiency, & quality. Maintains thorough knowledge/understanding of mortgage services products, procedures, regulatory compliance & mortgage lending guidelines for EFCU and Freddie Mac. Assists in the training of department personnel and aids in the completion of mortgage loan files, if needed.
Reviews files that exceed standard underwriting guidelines and evaluate whether an exception is warranted based on compensating factors. Maintains an exception report for all policy deviations, ensuring appropriate justification and documentation are obtained. Escalates all files recommended for disapproval to the Mortgage Services Review Committee for further evaluation and final determination.
Performs ongoing evaluations of underwriting decisions to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with ECOA, FHA, and EFCU standards. Continuously monitors fair lending data to detect patterns, disparities, or emerging risks. Escalates any identified issues or concerns to the Vice President for further review.
Maintains the accuracy and completeness of HMDA data and ensures timely submission of the final HMDA report to the CFPB.
Ensures punctual submission of adverse action notices and prepares and distributes accurate monthly loan reports to appropriate departments.
Coordinates the approval process for non-approved settlement agents by ensuring completion of the master policy application and receipt of all required documentation. Accurately documents status and actions taken within the system.
Resolves problems, complaints, and/or inquiries registered by members. Assists employees in solving problems and/or unusual situations that may arise. Ensures necessary corrections have been made and proper documentation is maintained.
Conducts and/or reviews performance evaluations and recommends salary adjustments and/or promotions. Maintains and approves all sick leave, annual leave, and administrative leave.
Conducts periodic team meetings to keep employees up to date with information on compliance, products, procedures, & systems. Coordinates annual job-specific training & compliance training for the Mortgage Services Underwriting and Pre-Post Closing teams.
Interacts with auditors to assist in reviews and examinations. Follows up and corrects any items addressed and ensure any necessary changes or recommendations have been implemented as directed.

Proactively seek opportunities to expand current products and services for the betterment of the members and EFCU.

Must attend career and industry specific webinars and conferences.

Must be thoroughly familiar with the Credit Union computer system and Mortgage LOS System.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience
Three years to five years of similar or related experience. Extensive knowledge of Mortgage lending practices and procedures. Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
Education
(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree). Management, Business Administration or a business-related field, is preferred. Annual training on Federal and State Mortgage Lending Laws and Regulations is required. This includes, but is not limited to, Fact Act, SAFE Act, ECOA, HMDA, TILA, and RESPA training.
