As a Mechanical Apprentice Program Instructor, you will be responsible for instructing, mentoring, and developing apprentices in industrial mechanical systems ensuring the acquisition of technical knowledge, hands-on skills, and safe work practices required for success in a manufacturing environment. This role provides structured classroom and on-the-job training, delivering comprehensive instruction in mechanical systems, tools, equipment operation, and troubleshooting.

As a key contributor to workforce development, you will guide apprentices through practical learning experiences, evaluate technical competency, and reinforce safety, quality, and industry standards. RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Deliver technical training in industrial mechanical systems to apprentices.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Link classroom instruction to real-world manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct practical demonstrations and supervised field training.
  • Ensure company safety standards and safe work practices are followed.
  • Coach and mentor apprentices to support skill development and performance.
  • Evaluate apprentice progress through assessments and observation.
  • Maintain training records and competency documentation.
  • Support apprentice recruitment and serve as liaison with educational partners.
  • Maintain the condition and cleanliness of the training facility and equipment to a high standard.
  • Perform additional duties and attend training as required.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS

  • General schedule is an 8.5-hour Monday - Thursday, 6-hour Friday assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
  • Working in high and low temperature environments, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Working in a noisy environment with fumes and odors.

QUALIFICATIONS

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in a training environment preferred.
  • Practical experience as a Maintenance Technician preferred.
  • Proficiency in machining, milling, welding, or fabrication.
  • Experience with Power transmission systems, Hydraulics and Pneumatics preferred.
  • Experience with gearboxes, couplings, belts, chains and bearings.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • On-the-job training (OJT) facilitation.
  • Hands-on technical instruction and training delivery.
  • Experience with Industrial pumps, compressors, and fluid systems.
  • Experience with Conveyor systems and material handling equipment.
  • Experience with Industrial mechanical systems troubleshooting and repair.

Skills, Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • Four-year degree preferred or compensatory closely related work experience required.
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to mentor and coach others.
  • Strong work ethic, including dependability, accountability and follow-through.
  • Precision Measurement and Alignment Techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and integrate seamlessly with multiple teams.
  • Welding fundamentals and metalworking techniques.
  • Preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices.
  • Mechanical schematic and blueprint interpretation.
  • Strong technical communication skills.
  • Time management.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
