What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Engineer – SolidWorks / Fabrication position at EGA Products Inc?
Company Description
EGA Products is a family-owned manufacturer of high-quality material handling and access equipment — including platforms, ladders, stairways, stack racks, and custom-engineered industrial solutions. For more than 50 years, we’ve supported customers across the country with products built for safety, durability, and real-world performance.
All product design and engineering is based at our Brookfield, WI headquarters, supported by fabrication operations in both Wisconsin and North Carolina. We are a tight-knit, practical team committed to quality craftsmanship and building products that stand the test of time. We pride ourselves on the "Made in the USA" phrase that correlates to high quality products.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a hands-on Product Engineer with strong SolidWorks skills and a practical understanding of steel fabrication.
You’ll design new products, improve existing offerings, support custom jobs, and work directly with sales, production, and leadership. You will help lead the design of material handling equipment, moving projects from initial concept through fabrication to final shipment. If you enjoy seeing your designs move from concept to finished product, this is a great fit.
What You’ll Do
- Design & Innovate: Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for welded steel assemblies using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Support custom product requests with fast concepting, feasibility checks, and clear documentation.
- Production Support: Create accurate BOMs, routings, and technical packages. You will be the technical bridge between the office and the shop floor.
- Custom Engineering: Partner with Sales to interpret customer needs and generate rapid feasibility checks and engineered solutions for custom orders.
- Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with production to improve design for manufacturing, reducing costs and increasing quality.
- Prototype & Test: Lead internal design reviews and participate in hands-on prototyping of new product lines.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, strengthen, or standardize designs across product lines.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or similar.
- 5–10 years of product design or mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, with experience designing welded steel structures or fabricated components.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, weld symbols, GD&T, and structural drawings.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with sales, shop personnel, and leadership.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
- A practical, hands-on mindset. Someone who enjoys understanding how products are actually built.
Bonus: Experience with material handling equipment, custom fabrication, or short-run manufacturing.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- Impact: Your designs directly influence the safety and efficiency of workers nationwide.
- Autonomy: We trust our engineers to own their projects from start to finish.
- Stability: Join a profitable, established, family-owned company with a long-term vision.
- Tangible Results: There is nothing like walking onto the shop floor to see exactly what you designed being built.
Benefits:
- Competitive Salary
- Health Insurance
- 401(k) with Company Match
- Paid Time Off (PTO) & Holidays
