What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at EF Builders Corp.?
E&F Builders Corp. and Edson Deep Foundations are family-owned construction companies based in South Miami, generating $20–25M in combined annual revenue. E&F builds high-end residential concrete shells; Edson Deep Foundations installs piles and deep foundations. We run lean, build at a high level, and we're bringing financial operations in-house.
We're hiring our first Controller to own the books across both companies. This is not a "keep the books" job. It's a strategic seat. You'll own the financial picture across both entities, give ownership a clear view of where every dollar is and where it's going, and build the systems that let us scale without losing control. You'll report directly to the owners, manage one bookkeeper, and work alongside our external CPA and project managers.
What you'll do:
- Manage full-cycle accounting across both companies (E&F Builders and Edson Deep Foundations)
- Oversee AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and monthly close
- Run job costing for shell and foundation work: labor, materials, equipment, and subs
- Administer construction draws: lender packages, lien waivers, AIA documentation
- Track job costs against budgets and flag variances early
- Manage inter-company transactions and cost allocations
- Produce monthly financial packages for ownership: P&L by job, consolidated balance sheet, cash flow forecast
- Build and maintain a rolling 13-week cash forecast
- Coordinate payroll and prepare lender reporting packages
- Partner with our external CPA on tax planning and year-end filings
- Evaluate and optimize our accounting software, and supervise one bookkeeper
What we're looking for:
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 in construction
- Expert-level QuickBooks proficiency (required)
- Construction job cost and draw accounting experience
- Comfort managing multiple related entities
- Strong Excel and cash flow modeling skills
- CPA or equivalent experience strongly preferred
- Equal parts detail-obsessed and big-picture: you catch the $500 error and see the $500K cash gap six weeks out
Compensation and benefits:
- $80,000–$120,000 base performance bonus
- Health insurance
