JOB SUMMARY:

Design and instruct curriculum in all academic areas to meet the needs of a diverse class of elementary students. Provide instruction in both English and Spanish.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of: Dual language instruction, biliteracy development, and culturally responsive teaching practices.  

 

Skilled in: Lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.  

 

Ability to: Demonstrate strong classroom organization and behavior management skills; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and build positive relationships with Spanish-speaking students, parents, and staff.

 

Understanding of: Cultural and social issues affecting diverse students and their families, and students and families experiencing poverty.

 

Experience: Successful experience teaching migrant, Title I-A, and Title III students. Proficiency in technology integration and training in GLAD or other sheltered instruction strategies. Spanish proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking. Preference given to candidates with successful experience teaching in both Spanish and English, and to bilingual candidates.

 

Education:  A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with proper ESOL and K-5 endorsements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
  2. Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follow established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
  3. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  4. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
  5. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
  6. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
  7. Cooperate with other members of the staff.
  8. Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  9. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  10. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
  11. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
  12. Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Language SkillsAbility to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lessons plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.

 

Mathematical SkillsAbility to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy. 

 

Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Other Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works in a school environment. Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.

 

CLASSIFICATION:                    

Licensed, temporary summer position, Location Edwards Elementary School.

 

WORK DAYS/HOURS:

Tentative Schedule:

  • July 1–2 (8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) – Professional development and program preparation
  • July 6–30 (8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) – Student contact day
  • July 29 Family Engagement Night
  • July 31 (8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) – Final staff workday

 

ALL DATES, HOURS AND EMPLOYMENT CONTINGENT ON ENROLLMENT.

 

SALARY:                    

Paid by timesheet at the per diem rate of the 2026-2027 Licensed Salary Schedule. Salary range $52,339 - $107,622.
