JOB SUMMARY:
Design and instruct curriculum in all academic areas to meet the needs of a diverse class of elementary students. Provide instruction in both English and Spanish. Bilingual required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of: specific curriculum content for subject area. Skilled in: lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels. Ability to: communicate orally and in writing and build relationships with students, parents, and staff. Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents preferred. Preference given to candidates with successful experience in teaching Spanish and English. Strong desire to create a powerful dual language program. Ability to co-teach; ability to collaboratively across middle school and elementary Dual Language PLCs; trained in GLAD or Constructive Meaning strategies. Ability to do some curriculum mapping during summer.
Experience: Experience preferred but not required.
Education: Completion of a higher education bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in education/teaching.
Certification Required: A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for middle school with science endorsement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follow established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff.
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
- Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Language Skills: Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lesson plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations. Bilingual preferred.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish. Must possess a thorough knowledge of science and incorporate writing skills as well as techniques needed to teach those skills effectively in both languages. Knowledge of appropriate practices for teaching multilingual students. Have the desire and skills needed to work closely and collaboratively with other middle school science teachers as part of a professional learning community. Willing to help develop and support the Dual Language program at the middle school. Ability to implement effective teaching practices with strong classroom management skills. Data driven with project based learning strategies. Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year in accordance with negotiated agreement between licensed teachers and the district.
CLASSIFICATION:
Full time, probationary position, at Mountain View Middle School.
CALENDAR/SALARY/BENEFITS:
8 hours per day; 190 days starting August 24, 2026. Position includes 2 days for New Teacher In-Service prior to start date.
Salary range based on prior experience, $52,339 - $107,622 per the NEA Salary Schedule.
