Job Descriptions
The school Nurse will treat students for medical issues, help prevent physical issues and diseases, support student mental health and emotional well-being, coordinate routine health assessments, provide training and support for MERT teams, maintain emergency medical devices/epipens, and is a member of the district wellness and SEAB committees
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the professional medical treatment of students.
- Responsible for early detection of physical problems and health evaluations.
- Responsible for disease prevention.
- Assists in promoting programs on health education and immunization.
- Maintains clinical records.
- Coordinates vision, hearing, orthopedic screening, and health assessments.
- Provides emergency aid to students and school staff.
- Assists teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education.
- Develop and monitor student health care plans and/or 504 plans
- Communicate with families about healthcare concerns
- Coordinates staff and community vaccination clinics
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of community agencies to help students and their families.
- Knowledge of district policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of many areas of health, including mental health
- CPR certified
- Ability to work independently or with others
Education and Experience:
- Registered nurse (RN) certification required.
- Current nursing license required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Tolerate fast-paced work
- Work with sharp objects
Terms of Employment
- Part-time position, approximately 20-25 hours per week
- Hourly pay rate will be based on certifications and experience
- Position is grant-funded
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies, and/or community members.
