What are the responsibilities and job description for the IP/DSP/Learning-Job Coach for Autistic Adult position at Educational Tutoring?
Overview
Ambitious Day is a unique day program for Autistic Young Adults that incorporates college level learning, motor coaching, skills building, vocational training and recreation in a social environment.
We are seeking 4 or more Coaches to work with 4 different individuals for one, two or more days per week, and 4 to 6 hours per day.
Each Coach will be paired with a specific individual and will be responsible for that individual's activities during the day. There will be 3-6 individuals in a class, each with their own Coach, working together on similar programs throughout the day.
The Coach will not be required to plan the schedule or create material. The Coach will make sure their individual is in the best possible place to make the most of their day.
The individuals in the program are nonspeaking and use a methodology called Spelling2Communicate. The Coach should be open to learning this methodology, with costs covered by the individual. S2C is gaining acceptance across the country and there are two local professional offices, dedicated to the methodology. This is an opportunity to build a professional career in communication while working with a specific individual on a paid basis.
Requirements
- Proven experience working with people with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder is strongly preferred.
- Independent Providers and Direct Service Providers are favored candidates; however, the right Coach may be someone with a heart for this population who is seriously open to building a new career and interested in S2C. (We recommend the movie The Spellers for those interested in this discipline.)
- A compassionate approach with a commitment to promoting independence and community integration is essential.
- Ability to work independently and focus on a particular individual, while being part of a group that is doing the same, is part of this role.
- Willingness to incorporate your current skills with a new methodology and to take guidance on priority and process are required.
- Relevant certifications or training in social work, counseling, or disability services are advantageous
Location
- The individuals are currently holding classes in Highland Heights and Brecksville on different days of the week and we are recruiting for Coaches for both locations and days.
