Job Title: Head Start Nutrition Manager
Department: Head Start/Early Head Start
Education Level and Certification: Bachelor' s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field preferred. Preferred experience working with child nutrition and familiarity with CACFP requirements.
Reports To: Director of Head Start
Terms of Employment: Schedule 6 / 12 month position / Salary determined by Head Start budget based on education and experience.
Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks
Head Start Requirements:
Implement the education and family engagement objectives through daily operation of the center in accordance with Dept. of Health and Human Services Administration for Children, Youth and Families (ACYF) Head Start Performance Standards and state licensing as applicable.
- Must be proficient in verbal communication and in maintaining written documentation.
- Must possess the ability to have good environmental awareness (visual and auditory responsiveness) to keep children safe.
- Training, meetings and community interactions may include evenings or weekends.
- Occasional out-of-town travel for training is required.
- A clear criminal records check (including child abuse registry check) is required prior to employment.
- Must complete a screening physical with a tuberculosis screening upon hire.
- Within 90 days of employment (or sooner if required by local/state regulations), must obtain and continually maintain basic first aid and pediatric/adult CPR certification.
- Translate communication between program, child and family using family’s primary language when applicable.
- Comply with the Head Start Performance Standards and ESU 13 Employee Performance and Code of Ethics.
- Maintain standards of confidentiality regarding the program, children, families, staff, and community.
- To drive agency vehicles (if applicable), must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the ESU 13 insurance carrier and have a Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to ESU 13.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor nutrition screening procedures within prescribed timeframes and secure nutrition services for children through collaborations with community professionals and Registered Dietitian as needed.
- Oversee administrative procedures to achieve a fully funded nutrition component by completing Child & Adult Food Program (CACFP) requirements.
- Ensure compliance with local and state regulation to provide a safe, healthy environment for children, families and staff.
- Maintain an integrated information management system of nutrition records for the program to maintain a variety of manual and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance with district, local, state and federal regulations.
- Directs and constructs the development of emergency and individual nutrition plans for children with dietary restrictions with the purpose of ensuring that their nutritional needs and CACFP requirements are met.
- Conducts Head Start site visits for the purpose of monitoring program standards, community standards of care and/or ensuring compliance with state laws and federal regulations.
- Maintain and effectively use the Health and Mental Health Advisory Committee to provide a quality health program based on best health and nutrition practices.
- Supervise and evaluate cook and assistant cook staff as required by the program.
- Develop training for nutrition staff and parents regarding best practices in the area of nutrition.
- Serve as liaison to the community and maintain organizational linkages with professional consultants and agencies, advocating services for families.
- Provides technical assistance and consultation to child development staff including but not limited to nutrition, feeding, sanitation, growth & development and appropriate nutrition policies for the purpose of ensuring child health & safety.
- Secure yearly contract for consulting dietitian and maintain an on-going working relationship.
- Participate and contribute to the management team to promote a quality program through management team meetings and program assessment.
At-Will Position. This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the ESU 13 Administrator or ESU 13 Administrator’s designee.
FLSA Status: Exempt.
- Executive exemption: The primary duty of the employee is the management of a department or subdivision. The employee customarily and regularly directs the work of two or more other employees and has authority to hire or fire other employees or the employee’s recommendations as to hiring, firing, promotion or other change of status of other employees are given particular weight.
- Administrative exemption: The employee has the primary duty of performing office or non-manual work directly related to the management of general business operations of the ESU 13. The employee customarily and regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment or has a primary duty of performing administrative functions directly related to academic instruction or training in ESU 13 or a department or subdivision.
