General Responsibilities

School District Nurse - RNIn collaboration with the Regional School Nurse, the RN school nurse manages and delivers school health relatedservices. The school nurse scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional nursing standards.
School District LPNUnder the direction of the Regional School Nurse, the School District LPN implements, manages and delivers school healthservices to schools districts and /or agencies. The school nurse scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional school nursing standards.
Salary:The full salary range for this position is:LPN: $32.89 - $40.02. *As of 9/1/25, the range is $33.75 - $41.06RN: $42.59 - $51.82. *As of 9/1/25, the range is $43.70 - $53.17
Offers are made at the entry level of the range.
Assignment:This position will serve the afterschool program in White Salmon and will work 6.5 hrs/wk, school year schedule.

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:School Nurse - RN
  1. Assess the critical health needs of students in schools, i.e., review Emergency Care Plans (ECP) for students with life threatening medical conditions, medically fragile students, students with health concerns and/or requiring nursing treatments.
  2. Collaborate and consult with administrators and other staff to identify school safety and environmental health needs.
  3. Assess the physical and emotional health of students within the scope of the Regional School Nurse practice; initiate referrals for diagnosis and treatment of identified health needs; and communicate health concerns that impact learning to staff.
  4. Coordinate and implement mandated health screenings, including referral and follow-up.
  5. Supervise, train and delegate medication administration and nursing treatments as allowed by law.
  6. Provide health counseling and crisis intervention to students; serve as an advocate for the health rights of students and as a professional liaison between the school, family, and health community.
  7. Perform professional nursing tasks including emergency services.
  8. Serve as a resource for health education to the classroom teacher.
  9. Consult and collaborate with staff, parents and other professionals to assess student health status and make recommendations that are consistent with the individualized education plan.
  10. Collect health care services data.
  11. May assist school districts with policies and procedures for school health services based on current laws and accepted practices.
  12. Consult and collaborate with staff, parents and other professionals to assess student health status and make recommendations that are consistent with the individualized education plan or 504 plan support.
School District LPN
  1. Assist in Regional School Nurse in performing nursing assessments.
  2. Within LPN scope of practice and in accordance with district policies and procedures, provide nursing care to students.
  3. Implement student health care plans and emergency plans as directed by the Regional School Nurse.
  4. Collaborate and consult with the Regional School Nurse and other staff to identify and address school safety and environmental health needs.
  5. Maintain accurate records pertaining to medication and treatment administration, immunizations, screening results and injury records.
  6. Serve as an advocate for the health rights of students as a profession liaison between the school, family and health community.
  7. Collaborate with the RSN to coordinate and implement mandated health screenings.
  8. Collect health care services data.
  9. Participate in health-promoting and prevention efforts.
Other Functions:

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:Regional School Nurse
  1. Valid Washington State registered nurse (RN) license.
  2. Current CPR/1st aid certification.
School District LPN
  1. Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Washington State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  2. Current CPR/1st aid certification.
Preferred Qualifications:Regional School Nurse
  1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing; valid Washington ESA certificate as a school nurse; school nurse experience in public or private schools.
  2. Experience working with community service agencies, i.e. health professionals, department of health, social services.
  3. Experience providing health education training to individuals or in a classroom setting.
  4. Experience working with children or adolescents in clinical or community settings.
  5. Experience delegating care in a school setting per Washington RN delegation laws (RCW 18.79 and WAC 246-840) and comfort supervising unlicensed school personnel.
  6. Experience in the health care of school-age children, including knowledge of common chronic conditions, emergency response, and school-based care plans.
School District LPN
  1. Experience as an LPN in a school setting.
  2. Experience in pediatrics.


Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions:
  1. Exposed to diseases carried by students, exposed to student noise levels.
  2. Travel to school buildings and districts to provide services.
  3. Ability to physically move and/or lift equipment varying in weight up to 35 lb.
  4. Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.

Employment Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  2. Proof of immunization/disease including MMR/Td/Hepatitis B/Varicella.
