General Responsibilities 
Under the supervision of the Day Treatment Program Director and Lead Behavior Coach, the Behavior Coach will provide therapeutic interventions for students in crisis or as arranged for positive interactions. The Behavior Coach works to identify and teach the skills necessary to support student educational progress, consulting with the classroom team to integrate all disciplines into a comprehensive program for each student. Assignment/Location:

Essential Functions/Other Functions
Essential Functions:
  1. Manage crisis intervention by maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for the students.
  2. Assist with development of strategies to coordinate the therapeutic school with referring districts and interagency partners to implement program models consistent with best practice and state, federal and local legal requirements.
  3. Assist in developing programs and/or activities to promote positive student behavior, as well as intervention strategies. Assist the leadership team to determine eligibility and coordinate delivery of appropriate services for new referrals.
  4. Work with referred students and their teacher and families for the purpose of modifying inappropriate behavior. Gather and analyze information to understand and plan for the presenting needs of the child and family.
  5. Consult with and assist school staff, clinical psychologists and parents in developing student therapeutic interventions.
  6. Collect and review data related to school therapeutic and behavior plans.
  7. Summarize and report all therapeutic and behavior data for program director.
  8. Problem solve with students on a daily basis.
  9. Support students on transportation/bussing to and from academy, as needed.
  10. Facilitate instruction to teach interpersonal conflict resolution.
  11. Collaboratively create and implement individual student contracts and safety plans.
  12. Follow student behavior plans and provide input and feedback to teachers, psychologists, and program director.
  13. Participate in distributing and managing medication.
Other Functions:
  1. Work cooperatively with local district and /or private agency administration and staff, fulfilling responsibilities as a member of the school faculty.
  2. Assist the program director and lead behavior coach with evaluation and development, including collecting outcome data.
  3. Compile student data required under IDEA or necessary for local, state and federal reporting.
  4. Provides for students' personal care needs including feeding, toileting, tube feeding, catheterization, and diaper changing.
  5. Provide support to the teacher in the classroom as needed. Given a behavioral escalation, responds to the needs of the students consistent with the behavior support plan and crisis plan.
  6. Assist in developing plans for student transitions and coordinates with other program staff in the implementation of the plans. Demonstrate competency in utilization of therapeutic approach in de-escalation.
  7. Other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Two years of experience working with students with behavior or mental health issues.
  3. Working knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations and procedures.
  4. Knowledge of academic curriculum aligned with Washington State standards.
  5. Recent successful experience working in educational/mental health settings with students who have serious social/emotional or behavioral challenges.
  6. Ability to acquire and maintain a valid first aid and CPR card.
  7. Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. AA degree.
  2. Experience working with other professionals such as counselors, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists as resources for planning and delivery of specially designed programs.
  3. Training and/or experience in non Functional Behavior Analysis.
  4. Training and/or experience in implementation of Positive Behavior Supports.
  5. Experience in non-aversive behavior crisis prevention and intervention.

  1. Day treatment program setting.
  2. Sit, stand, stoop to attend to student needs and to provide instruction. Strength and agility to assist in physically maintaining a safe learning environment to include emergency response protocols in compliance with Washington State WACs.
  3. Exposure to communicable diseases found in children and adolescents.
  4. Students may use challenging or offensive verbalizations toward staff and other students with potential for escalation to physical aggression.
  5. Evening meetings with families, extended or flexible hours as necessary.

Employment Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
