POSITION SUMMARY
The Classroom & Kitchen Aide supports daily classroom and food service operations within the early learning program to promote a safe, healthy, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. This position assists with classroom activities, meal preparation and service, sanitation, and supervision of children while supporting positive interactions and school readiness.
The Classroom & Kitchen Aide works collaboratively with teaching staff and families to support high-quality early learning experiences in compliance with ECEAP Performance Standards, DCYF licensing requirements, CACFP guidelines, and program policies. The role promotes respectful, culturally responsive interactions and contributes to the overall health, safety, and well being of children and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist classroom staff in implementing daily activities and routines that support children’s learning, development, health, and safety.
Prepare classroom materials, supplies, meals, and snacks in accordance with ECEAP, DCYF, and CACFP requirements.
Maintain safe, clean, organized, and sanitary classroom, kitchen, and food service environments.
Support developmental, health, and program screenings, documentation, and recordkeeping as assigned.
Follow program policies and procedures related to child supervision, behavior support, health, safety, food handling, and mandated reporting.
Interact positively and respectfully with children, families, staff, volunteers, and community members using culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate practices.
Support family engagement activities, classroom events, and overall program operations as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality of child and family information in accordance with program requirements and applicable laws.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
ECEAP Performance Standards, DCYF licensing requirements, and CACFP guidelines.
Child development, early learning, and developmentally appropriate practices for preschool-aged children.
Positive behavior support, classroom management, health, safety, and sanitation practices.
Culturally responsive practices and working with diverse children and families.
Skill in:
Building positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
Working effectively as part of a collaborative team.
Organization, time management, and attention to detail.
Basic computer and technology skills, including email, word processing, and data entry.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Completion of Initial Basic STARS training hours or ability to obtain within required timelines after hire.
Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with young children in a classroom, childcare, or group setting.
Experience working with diverse children, families, and communities in a respectful and culturally responsive manner.
Certifications/ Licenses:
Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Valid Washington State Food Worker Card.
Completion of required Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) trainings within established timelines.
Background Requirements:
Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background check through the Washington State Patrol (WSP) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in accordance with OSPI, DCYF, and district requirements.
Successful completion and maintenance of Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) background clearance as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an ECEAP, Head Start, or other early learning program.
Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.
Experience with food preparation or meal service in childcare, school, or institutional settings.
Knowledge of CACFP meal patterns, food safety standards, and related documentation requirements.
Experience supporting children with diverse developmental, behavioral, or learning needs.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in classroom, kitchen, and food service settings within an early learning environment. The position involves frequent interaction with children, families, and staff in active and fast-paced settings.
Responsibilities include maintaining safe, clean, and organized classroom and kitchen environments and may involve exposure to cleaning products, food preparation equipment, and moderate noise levels typical of early childhood programs.
