Substitue EC Special Education Teacher - Early Childhood Behavioral Health Center

General Responsibilities Reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Special Education, the Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will work in the Early Care and Education Behavioral Health Center and provide services to special education students with a range of mild to severe disabilities ages 3-5 years. The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher leads the individual education team (IEP) to develop data driven student learning and behavioral goals. The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher is responsible for co-developing curriculum and program strategies alongside a general education ECEAP Lead Teacher consistent with the student's learning levels and to continually assess student progress towards IEP goals. Assignment/Location: We’re currently recruiting a Substitute Special Education Teacher to support our Nova program. This role includes both on-call substitute teaching—providing services as needed—and a long-term assignment running from February 2026 through June 2026. The Nova program is a new program in Vancouver, WA, that serves children ages 3-5 with intensive social, emotional, mental and behavioral supports and services. Salary: The on-call substitute rate is $195 for a full day and $100 for a half day. The long-term assignment rate is $318 - $533 per day, salary placement determined by education and certificated experience. Essential Functions/Other Functions Essential Functions:

1. Identify teaching strategies to implement IEP goals for special education students. Monitor and adjust teaching strategies to meet students' needs.
2. Co-develop and manage learning experiences for preschool classroom activities, (e.g. small group, direct instruction, inclusion, independent practice, one-on-one) alongside a general education ECEAP lead teacher.
3. Conduct student assessments to determine program eligibility and services.
4. Supervise the collection of performance data on student IEP objectives and document progress on IEP online.
5. Co-develop lesson plans.
6. Develop and complete IEP plans.
7. Organize, schedule, and facilitate IEP meetings with parents, general education staff, and specialist.
8. Communicate with parents and students regarding transition goals.
9. Develop and adapt curriculum from general education curriculum. Coordinate with general education teacher to monitor student grades and progress.
10. Train staff to support student learning.
11. Consult and collaborate with professionals and parents regarding needs of special students to assure appropriate learning experiences.
12. Inform principal/staff on progress of students.
13. Maintain a safe environment conductive to learning. Implement preschool classroom management programs for students. Monitor and adjust individual behavior management plans for individual student's needs.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills Minimum Qualifications:

1. Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Washington teaching certificate with an early childhood special education endorsement (preferred) or P-12
2. Special Education endorsement.
3. Experience writing individualized curriculum.
4. Experience developing, executing and adjusting behavior management program supports.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. National Board Teacher Certification.
2. Experience in the administration and provisions of early childhood special education services.
3. Teaching experience.
4. Experience training staff.
5. Experience serving young children with internalizing and/or externalizing behaviors.
6. Three years of experience working with children in a preschool or transition to kindergarten setting.

Working Conditions/Employment Requirements Working Conditions:

1. Classroom setting.
2. Provide assistance and attend to the physical needs of students including moving and positioning students. Assist with personal hygiene needs, including but not limited to: tube feeding, catheterization, changing diapers, and
3. Sit, stand, stoop to attend to student's needs and to provide instruction. Strength and agility to assist physically impaired students.
4. Travel within ESD 112 Region.

Employment Requirements:

1. Successful completion of a portable background check and clearance through the WA State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).
2. Tuberculosis test to meet state health requirements.
3. Health exam.
4. Proof of MMR immunity.
