General Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Specialized Transportation Director, the Transportation Training Manager will provide supervisory and administrative support for all aspects of the ESD 112 Training Academy. The Training Manager will play a key role in managing the driver training program at ESD 112. In addition, the Manager will oversee the expansion of the Training Academy to provide training services to our regional school district partners.
Salary:
The full annual salary range is $81,265.60 - $98,883.20. Offers are made at the entry level of the range.
Assignment:
The person in this role will work full-time, year-round. This position is open until filled with applications received by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 receiving first consideration.

Essential Functions/Other Functions
Essential Functions:
- Provide oversight and management of the ESD 112 Training Academy, including but not limited to the planning and delivery of classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training and ride-along evaluations, the required annual driver in-service, and the expansion of high-quality training opportunities for district drivers and regional partners.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws, OSPI requirements, and ESD 112 procedures.
- Support recruitment and hiring processes and the coordination of ongoing training opportunities in a manner that supports daily transportation operations and initiatives.
- Maintain organized and accurate training, licensing, safety, and transportation records while ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive, personal, and protected information in accordance with federal and state laws and ESD 112 policies.
- Conduct specialized training programs, including driver responsibilities, techniques for working with students with special needs, use of specialized equipment, and student management strategies.
- Participate in meetings with drivers, parents, and school staff to provide guidance for drivers on student management strategies.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Drive a school bus as needed.
- Participate as a member of the Specialized Transportation Leadership team.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Three years of transportation experience in any combination of driving, training, routing, or dispatching.
- Experience as a School Bus Driver.
- Hold a valid Washington State Class A or B commercial driver's license with "S" and "P" endorsements and a valid Washington State School Bus Driver Authorization.
- Hold, or obtain within agreed upon timeline after hire, a Certificate of Completion of OSPI's School Bus Driver Trainer Course and the mandated OSPI annual Driver Trainer In-Service.
- Experience interpreting safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to student transportation.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and database software.
- Two years of school bus driving.
- Experience working in an office environment.
- Experience in the pupil transportation field that includes management of daily operations.
- Completion of a Pupil Transportation Management Training Program.
- Experience working with students with special needs.
- Three years of experience as a school bus driver trainer.
- Experience training Class B drivers with air brake restrictions removed.
- Office environment.
- Required to operate and ride school buses under various road conditions.
- Required to set up driving maneuvers using traffic cones and other devices, with frequent lifting, kneeling and bending.
- Extended or flexible hours and ability to remain on-call, as needed.
- Travel throughout the ESD 112 service region as required.
- Meet physical requirements to maintain CDL and OSPI Authorization.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Maintain a valid Washington State Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with “S” and “P” endorsements, along with a valid Washington State School Bus Driver Authorization.
- Maintain a Certificate of Completion for OSPI’s School Bus Driver Trainer Course and the required annual OSPI Driver Trainer In-Service.
