What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of Gifted STEM position at Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West?
JOB SUMMARY
The Coordinator of Gifted, STEM, and Talent Development provides leadership and support to area districts, gifted staff, and general educators to select, adapt, or create a variety of differentiated curricula that incorporates advanced, conceptually challenging, in-depth, distinctive, and complex content for students identified as gifted as well as those who would benefit from talent development. Through this role, the Coordinator of Gifted, STEM, and Talent Development plans, develops, and implements the programming at the Challenger Learning Center (CLC) of Lake Erie West either individually or in collaboration with Interactive Science Specialists that are scheduled and supervised by the Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ohio State Board of Education license/endorsement as a Gifted Intervention Specialist
- Three years successful teaching experience
- Experience or training in Universal Design for Learning preferred
- Experience with Talent Development preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide High Quality Gifted Professional Development throughout the year:
- Large Group
- Asynchronous Book Studies and other online options
- Modeling during pre- post- simulated science activities
- Consult with school personnel on gifted education issues, talent development, equal opportunity, and access for all.
- Work with district personnel to expand high-quality educational experiences for gifted students including simulated space science experience, critical thinking opportunities, and other STEM experiences.
- Consult with school personnel, provide training, and model ways to develop and adapt curriculum materials, and teaching strategies for students.
- Assist district administrators in aligning sound methodological approaches for each category of the gifted education program with a view towards creating uniformity across the District in implementing "best practice" instructional methodologies
- Provide guidance and support to teachers with respect to behavioral interventions, academic interventions, classroom management, and individualization of instruction
- Plan and provide workshops for families of gifted students about the social emotional, and academic needs of gifted children
- Collaborate with ESC, district administration, staff and parents to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, document evidence of student growth and the job performance of gifted teachers as it relates to experiences with the ESC of Lake Erie West Center for Gifted, STEM, and Talent Development.
