Duties
PRIMARY POSITION DUTIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Providing professional development, coaching, and technical assistance on evidence-based instructional strategies, special education service delivery models, specially designed instruction for students with disabilities, disproportionality in special education, and other topics related to closing student achievement gaps.
- Providing implementation strategies and follow-up support to educational teams related to multi-tiered systems of support,
- Providing professional development, coaching, and technical assistance on implementation of IDEA (ETR, IEP, Internal Monitoring, Indicator Review)
- Collecting and documenting evidence of implementation and impact of work with districts and buildings according to processes outlined by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, and
- Assisting in documenting the work of the State Support Team and analyzing district/regional data to determine ongoing support needs.
- A master's degree in the area for which an employee has primary responsibility (i.e., education, special education, early childhood education, education administration or appropriate related field or evidence of equivalency).
- A minimum of three to five years of successful classroom teaching, instructional improvement planning and implementation, special education administration or related experience and a license appropriate to the individual's profession (special educational administration, general education, intervention specialist).
- Candidates shall demonstrate knowledge in the following areas:
- Understanding of the main provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA);
- Knowledge of improvement planning processes, including use of strategic problem-solving
- Ability to implement and monitor improvement strategies;
- Ability to deliver high-quality professional learning and technical assistance;
- Candidates shall have expertise and/or significant leadership experience in several of the following areas:
- Specially designed instruction and provision of free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment (special education,
- Basic analysis skills, including supporting district/building/teacher teams in data-based decision-making and instructional planning for students with disabilities,
- Effective evidence-based processes and instructional practices, including components of Ohio's Integrated Multi-tiered System of Support
- Supporting and monitoring IDEA compliance
- Coaching and consultation skills,
- Implementation and monitoring of improvement effort, and
- Delivery of high-quality professional learning and technical assistance
- Valid Ohio teaching license and/or administrative license.
- Experience as administrator at district or building level.
- Experience developing and providing professional development, coaching, and technical assistance for adult learners.
- Ensure integration of special education work within One Needs Assessment, One Plan and SDA (Service Delivery Agreement)
- Ensure required actions resulting from IDEA monitoring and dispute resolution findings are completed and sustained.
- Uses data analysis skills to compare/contrast test scores, school district evaluations and student achievement data.
- Provides professional learning and technical assistance to districts.
- Interprets and enforces provisions of state education laws, rules, and regulation of state education boards.
- Researches, evaluates, and prepares recommendations on curricula, instructional methods and materials for school districts.
- Develops instructional materials to be used by educators and instructors.
- Uses a computer to prepare and process information (e.g., input, compile, tabulate, post, store, retrieve, scan, modify, print, etc.)
- Assists districts, schools and families with questions and concerns.
- Upholds Board policies and follows administrative guidelines and procedures.
- Advises teaching and administrative staff in curriculum development, use of materials and equipment and implementation of state and federal programs and procedures,
- Assists with committee or internal team assignments and/or special projects as directed.
- Stays up to date on current research, programs, data trends, educational news, and laws/regulations.
- Keeps current with advances in office technology.
- Cross-trains with other staff as directed and offers assistance when needed.
- Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
- Provides technical assistance that helps families and district personnel in cooperatively addressing potential contentious issues prior to filing a formal complaint.
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the Superintendent/designee.
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the SST Director.
