Executive Assistant & Office Manager
Education Week is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and proactive Executive Assistant & Office Manager to provide high-level support to the President & CEO while helping ensure the smooth operation of our Bethesda, MD office.
 
This is a highly visible role for a seasoned administrative professional who is comfortable working with senior leaders, Board members, employees, external partners, and vendors. The ideal candidate is a trusted, discreet, and resourceful professional who can anticipate needs, manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and keep important work moving forward.
 
Job Description
As a key member of the Education Week team, the Executive Assistant /Office Manager will provide high-level administrative support to the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as a primary role. This position serves a critical role in coordinating and managing the executive schedule and outreach, meeting arrangements, documentation, and projects. This position also provides office management and administrative support overseeing office organization, vendor, and inventory management.
 
Responsibilities
Executive & Board Support
  • Manage the President & CEO’s complex calendar, meetings, travel, communications, and expense reporting.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact between the CEO and employees, Board members, external partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Anticipate needs, prioritize requests, and help ensure important decisions, meetings, and follow-up items move forward.
  • Prepare and coordinate presentations, meeting materials, correspondence, and special projects for the CEO.
  • Coordinate Board of Trustees meetings, including logistics, materials, and meeting minutes.
Office Management
  • Oversee day-to-day office operations, including supplies, equipment, mail and deliveries, vendors, and the facility's needs.
  • Help ensure a welcoming, organized, and well-functioning workplace for employees and visitors.
  • Manage the office budget, invoices, vendor relationships, and service contracts.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with building management and office vendors to resolve facilities and operational needs.
  • Support company meetings, celebrations, in-office collaboration days, and other employee events.
General Duties
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Build strong working relationships across the organization and provide responsive, professional support.
  • Take on additional administrative or operational projects as business needs evolve.
Requirements and Skills
  • 5 years of executive administrative experience, including experience supporting senior or C-level leaders; office management experience strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and anticipate needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to interact professionally with Board members, executives, employees, vendors, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated discretion, sound judgment, and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Proactive, resourceful problem-solver who can work independently while collaborating effectively with others.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common workplace technology, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Experience managing budgets, expenses, vendors, or office operations.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed.

Work Location

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $64,000 - $86,000 annually
