Department: Curriculum & Instruction Grant Funded Position

Grade Levels: Secondary 6-12

Primary Purpose

Provide on-site instructional coaching, support, and job-embedded professional learning to enhance teacher effectiveness and improve student achievement. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to implement aligned curriculum, analyze student data to inform instructional decisions, and promote the consistent use of research-based practices that support district and campus goals. Ensure all coaching practices, professional learning structures, and instructional supports align with and actively support the requirements, implementation, and intended outcomes of the TEA LASO Cycle 4 LIFT grant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Minimum of 8 years of successful classroom teaching experience with data to show evidence of success

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, curriculum & instruction, or educational leadership from accredited university
  • Administrative certification
  • Experience in instructional coaching, mentoring, or leadership roles
  • Experience in supporting multiple content areas (math preferred)

Job Description

The Instructional Coach will support the continuous improvement of teaching and learning in secondary education with a focus on math by developing and implementing coaching plans alongside a continuum of service. This role collaborates closely with teachers and administrators to strengthen instructional practices and improve student achievement, while facilitating professional development aligned to district goals. The Instructional Coach stays current on research and emerging trends in curriculum and instruction to effectively support the implementation of district programs. Responsibilities also include monitoring instructional effectiveness through data analysis, providing timely and constructive feedback, and participating in campus walkthroughs alongside campus and district leadership and other instructional support members. In addition, the Instructional Coach fosters a collaborative approach to family and community engagement to enhance parental involvement and student success, and performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation, instructional strategies, and best practices.
  • Deep understanding of how the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment informs effective teaching practices and leads to improved student outcomes.
  • Experience with educational technology and 21st Century Skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness.
  • Strong understanding of progress monitoring and data-driven instruction cycles.
  • Ability to analyze, disaggregate, and manipulate student data to drive instructional decisions.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of state standards (TEKS), assessment systems, and instructional technology.
  • In-depth knowledge of instructional coaching methods using evidence-based practices.
  • Experience with coaching teachers in concepts such as student engagement levels, lesson design, authentic learning, and self-directed learning.

Major Responsibilities And Duties

Instructional and Program Support:

  • Provide job-embedded coaching through observation, feedback, modeling, and co-teaching.
  • Conduct demonstration lessons.
  • Plan and deliver professional development aligned to campus and district needs.
  • Generate reports and provide data analysis.
  • Collaborate with campus and district leaders to develop and implement an action plan and prioritize academic and instructional needs.
  • Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) and collaborative planning on the campus.
  • Engage in targeted professional learning opportunities for instructional coaches to continuously improve capacity to lead, coach, and develop adult learners.

Data And Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze, disaggregate, and interpret student performance data with teachers.
  • Support teachers in using data to plan, adjust, and differentiate instruction throughout the year.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress and adjusting instructional strategies based on ongoing data analysis.
  • Support campuses in meeting performance goals and accountability standards.

Collaboration And Communication

  • Work collaboratively with principals, teachers, and district leadership.
  • Communicate instructional expectations and support campus initiatives.
  • Build positive relationships with staff, parents, and community members.

Other

  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports and documentation.
  • Stay current with research and best practices in curriculum and instruction.
  • Follow district safety protocols and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent use of computer and mouse.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment: Frequent campus visits; occasional districtwide travel; occasional travel to attend professional development sessions.
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
