Education at Work (E@W) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping students gain valuable work experience and develop critical skills. We partner with states, workforce agencies and forward-thinking companies to provide work-based learning experiences to secondary and post-secondary students. 


Position Summary

The Director of Internship Coordinators will be a pivotal leader in the New Mexico program, responsible for the operational management and compliance of the statewide network of local internship coordinators. This role is critical to maintaining the quality and scale of E@W’s hub-and-spoke program delivery model, ensuring strict adherence to the required intern-to-coordinator ratio, and overseeing all aspects of student scheduling and placement management. The Director will work closely with E@W's Project Manager and central administrative teams to ensure a successful, high-impact program across diverse geographies, including county, pueblo, and tribal governments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinator Oversight and Management
  • Directly manage, oversee, and support a minimum of 110 local coordinators across the state of New Mexico.
  • Lead the strategy for engaging and retaining successful coordinators, including offering and managing subcontracts for those who previously delivered successful SEIP programs.
  • Ensure that local coordinators are empowered to serve as effective local operators within E@W’s centralized oversight ("hub-and-spoke") model.
  • Compliance and Logistical Management
  • Support compliance with the mandated 20:1 intern-to-coordinator ratio across all program participants.
  • Work with E@W Shared Services (data, reporting, scheduling, and student success functions) to ensure schedules and placements are well managed and executed efficiently.
  • Track and manage coordinator performance metrics relevant to placement success, scheduling accuracy, and ratio compliance.
  • Program Quality and Student Success
  • Support the delivery of "light-touch training and professionalism workshops" to prepare students for the workplace (employability skills).
  • Ensure that all student experiences are developmentally appropriate for high school participants, incorporating best practices and tools developed in consultation with partners like WBLA.

  • Internal and External Coordination
  • Serve as the primary liaison between local coordinators and E@W’s Shared Services support functions.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Community Outreach and Engagement, New Mexico and Project Manager to ensure seamless operational support for students, employers, and state & local government partners.


Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: 5-7 years of professional experience managing large-scale educational programs, internship initiatives, or complex workforce development projects.
  • Management: Demonstrated ability to manage and lead large, decentralized teams, particularly in a statewide context (experience managing 100 staff/contractors preferred).
  • Organizational Expertise: Exceptional organizational skills with deep expertise in compliance, ratio management, scheduling, and logistical program oversight.
  • Relationship Builder: Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills to effectively engage local coordinators, subcontracting partners, and E@W central staff.
  • Mission-Driven: A genuine passion for workforce development, career-connected education, and creating opportunities for students.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Bilingual: Fluency in both English and Spanish is highly preferred.
