Position Summary:

The Program Director teaches in his/her assigned discipline, works with faculty to promote continuous improvement of instructional quality within the assigned program(s), and serves as the academic and operational leader of the department. The Program Director is responsible for the development, coordination, administration, and continuous improvement of academic programs; student advising and support initiatives; retention, persistence, and completion efforts; oversight and development of Program Leads as applies, faculty leadership and development; and achievement of departmental and institutional outcomes.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· As a faculty member, fulfills all the functions and responsibilities of teaching the assigned course load as directed by the Dean/Director of Education.

· Demonstrates excellent teaching qualities and sets a positive example for other instructors regarding appropriate dress, class preparation, punctuality, student assessment and a student-centered approach to classroom instruction.

· Serves as a subject matter expert for students, instructional staff and advisory committees regarding academic curriculum.

· Provides leadership in developing, evaluating and maintaining curricula and programs that respond to community needs, prepare students for success, and meet the requirements of the regulatory agencies.

· Leads the development, implementation, and assessment of strategies that promote student enrollment, engagement, retention, persistence, externship/internship/clinical participation, graduation, and overall student success. Collaborates with faculty and campus departments to identify barriers to student achievement and implement targeted interventions.

· In the capacity of a qualified instructor, visits the externship sites and review the students’ performance, and conduct meetings with students.

· Monitors attendance, academic performance, SAP, course progression, and other student success indicators to identify at-risk students. Develops and implements intervention plans, conducts student success meetings, and collaborates with faculty and student services personnel to improve retention, persistence, graduation, and licensure or certification outcomes where applicable.

· Monitors and ensures that all faculty and students are using Portico for attendance tracking where being used. If not using Portico, monitors and ensures that all faculty are entering attendance for their assigned courses directly after each scheduled class time.

· Provides academic advising and coaching to students regarding academic progress, attendance, program requirements, graduation readiness, professional expectations, and career goals.

· Conducts regular outreach to students experiencing academic or attendance challenges and documents advising sessions, action plans, referrals, and follow-up activities.

· Partners with Student Services, Financial Aid, Career Services, and other campus departments to address academic and non-academic barriers impacting student persistence and completion.

· Reviews student progression throughout the program and develops individualized success plans for students at risk of withdrawal, dismissal, or delayed graduation.

· Develops a schedule of classes in a timely fashion and in consultation with the Dean/Director of Education that is responsive to student needs and educational efficiencies.

· Coordinates with the Dean/Director of Education to conduct classroom observations, faculty evaluations, performance reviews, conferences, in-services and professional development sessions.

· In collaboration with the Dean/Director of Education, reviews retention, course completion, graduation, placement, and licensure outcomes on a regular basis and develops action plans to improve departmental performance and student success outcomes.

· Assists the Dean/Director of Education in the hiring, training, development and supervision of faculty and substitutes to cover classes as needed.

· Assists the Dean/Director of Education in providing product knowledge training to the admissions personnel from time to time and prior to the implementation of new or updated program(s).

· Works with faculty to provide mentoring for new full-time and adjunct faculty.

· Organizes and conducts new employee orientations regarding program procedures, instructional issues, and New Faculty Training in LEARN.

· Works with faculty to support course consistency in accordance with approved course syllabi and lesson plans.

· Ensures faculty actively support student success initiatives through early alert reporting, academic advising, timely communication, attendance monitoring, and intervention activities.

· Conducts weekly meetings with faculty to review student success metrics, identify at-risk students, evaluate retention and completion trends, coordinate advising and intervention efforts, review policies and procedures, and resolve faculty and student concerns.

· Ensures faculty support the attainment of department and institutional goals as laid out in the Program Effectiveness Plan (ABHES) or the Institutional Assessment and Improvement Activities.

· Maintains inventory of equipment, software and supplies in the laboratory and classroom and monitors the cleanliness of the labs/classrooms.

· Monitors classroom and student safety and immediately report safety concerns to the Dean/Director of Education and Campus President.

· Participates in student activities, such as serving as a club advisor, if asked.

· Understands, adheres to, and supports all contents of the school catalog, faculty handbook, and all policies and procedures.

· Ensures that student surveys are completed at the end of each course.

· Ensures that faculty members in the department update gradebooks weekly and finalize gradebooks in Canvas by the last day of a term so grades are ready to push in CampusVue.

· Selects and engages in advisory board activities at least twice a year with coordinated effort of Career Services and the Dean/Director of Education.

· Assists Career Services in working with students prior to and after graduation in securing positions related to their area of training.

· Develops and maintains industry contacts for instructional and employment purposes.

· Keeps abreast of industry changes through participation in industry events and regular involvement in professional organizations.

· Organizes and implements programming designed to help graduates transition from school to employment.

· Attends student orientation and graduation ceremonies.

· Performs other duties as may be specified by the Dean/Director of Education or the Campus President.

· Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

 

Skills/Competencies/Qualifications:

· Minimum of 3 years of significant program related/industry experience for Technical Instructor, or 4 years if leading an Academic Associate Degree Program at an ACCSC approved campus.

· Documented expertise in academic subject area as demonstrated by data sheets, diplomas, transcripts, certifications and/or résumés.

· Expertise in interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills.

· Ability to advise, mentor, and support diverse student populations; analyze retention and student success data; develop intervention strategies; and lead initiatives that improve persistence, academic achievement, graduation, and employment outcomes.

· Ability to provide effective direction and leadership and work effectively and collaboratively with others.

· Prior postsecondary related teaching experience of at least 2 years.

· Depending on the program taught, a certificate, diploma or degree at least one degree higher than conferred for the program leading is preferred.

· Appropriate licenses and/or certifications depending upon discipline as per accreditation and state licensing standards.

Work Hours: Evening hours, as well as daytime hours, on a regular basis.
