We are seeking a passionate and skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will work with students with visual impairments to enhance their independence, safety, and confidence in navigating school and community environments. Through individualized instruction and collaborative teamwork, you will help students build essential travel skills, access educational opportunities, and actively participate in daily life. This position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact through practical skill-building and personalized support.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver instruction in orientation and mobility (O&M) to students with visual impairments, enabling them to travel safely, confidently, and independently in various environments according to their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
- Teach and train safe travel techniques, including sighted-guide skills, pre-cane and cane skills, and effective use of residual vision or low-vision aids for maximum independence.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate students’ O&M skills, determine service needs, set goals, and track progress through written evaluations and ongoing reports.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and support staff to adapt home, classroom, and community environments and reinforce O&M skills across settings.
- Develop and prepare instructional materials and tools such as tactile maps, models, long canes, and low-vision aids to support skill development.
- Provide training and guidance to school personnel, peers, and families on appropriate interaction methods and safety considerations for students with visual impairments.
- Facilitate real-world learning experiences by transporting students to community locations for practical O&M instruction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field;
- Valid Arizona Department of Transportation Driver’s License.

Pay: $33.00 - $38.50 per hour
