What you will do
Role Overview:

The Energy Analytics Associate is responsible with gathering, analyzing, and maintaining market-relevant data to optimize short-term asset performance for EDP assets, as well as supporting trading and hedging activities in North America. This role involves aiding in the development of models and tools, and effectively communicating market fundamental insights for energy sales, congestion management, futures transactions, and project assessment, while adhering to ISO/RTO/Exchange rules, contractual and operational performance requirements.

Main responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development of price forecasting models, utilizing SQL, Power BI, Python, and other programming languages. Provide user support and document application processes.
  • Assist with defining scheduling strategies for renewables, ensuring performance requirements pertaining to energy and ancillary services sales, and capacity payments.
  • Anticipate and communicate the impact of the state of the transmission system on the economics of the merchant fleet.
  • Aid in devising short term trading strategies and opportunities in compliance with risk management rules and other company policies.
  • Create, maintain, and enhance the group's information systems to convert data into insights, facilitating informed market decisions.
  • Work with GEM in the development of automated applications capable of bidding Energy Storage Systems to maximize revenues from projects.
  • Back the development of applications intended to collect/monitor/analyze real time data from Energy Storage Systems.
  • Make recommendations intended at properly modeling energy storage projects, based on best practices/findings in operational data.
  • Survey market rules governing renewable resource participation in all relevant wholesale markets, including wind, solar, and energy storage.
  • Support IM&A in the investment analysis and pricing of projects including energy storage, by providing revenue projections estimates and system configuration recommendations.
  • Assist in the structuring of complex Power Purchase Agreements by the Origination team.
  • Produce reports with relevant information on renewable energy assets performance in the various North America wholesale electricity markets.
  • Work as part of a team, supporting and leading initiatives that enhance the group's capabilities and performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, or other STEM fields; Graduate studies are a plus.
  • 2 years of experience in commodity trading, investment management or programming.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel.
  • Proficient knowledge of Python, SQL, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and Power BI.
  • Competency in analytical problem solving and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese is a plus.
