The Director of Camp and Family Programs will oversee the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Edlavitch DCJCC's Camp and Family programming. In this capacity, they will direct Camp EDCJCC, develop brand new family engagement programming during the school year, and oversee the lead of our After School programming. The ideal candidate is adaptable and multifaceted, with the ability both to engage in strategic planning and roll up their sleeves and get the work done. They will seamlessly transition between being an approachable and engaging presence with children and parents, manage staff effectively, and maintain professionalism and organization in an office setting. This position is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned program director, or for an experienced educator (or someone in a related field) who is looking to grow into an administrative role. 

The Director of Camp and Family Programming is a full-time position, reporting to the Senior Director of Early Childhood, Youth, and Family. The Director of Camp and Family Programming supervises staff and works alongside a team of professional colleagues as part of the EDCJCC's program team.

 Key Responsibilities:

Summer Camp

  • Design and implement all aspects of daily camp operations for PK 4-4th grade campers 
  • Beyond the summer, run School Break Camps and Break Out Days (no school day) programs
  • Lead strategic planning to significantly expand camp enrollment 
  • Build partnerships with schools, community organizations, and local businesses 
  • Create promotional materials, manage camp communications, and coordinate open houses/information sessions 
  • Analyze enrollment data and market trends to inform program development 
  • Build and manage camp staff team, including hiring, training, and supervision 
  • Create age-appropriate programming that balances on-site activities with expanded off-site experiences 
  • Establish and nurture a distinctive camp culture that fosters community, growth, and joy 
  • Ensure camper safety, manage behavior and wellness concerns, and communicate regularly with families 
  • Oversee camp logistics including transportation, supplies, schedules, and facilities coordination 
  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and outreach campaigns to attract new families 
  • Improve systems for registration, camper information management, and family communications
  • Manage camp budget and ensure fiscal responsibility

Family Programs

  • Design and launch weekend "building takeover" programming with diverse, multigenerational activities for families with children of varying ages 
  • Staff and oversee Saturday programming, ensuring high-quality experiences and appropriate supervision and additional staffing
  • Collaborate with Theater J, JxJ, Jewish Life and Learning, and other departments to integrate their programming into family events 
  • Develop sustainable operational models including staffing, budget, and resource allocation 
  • Market family programming to both existing members and prospective families

Leadership

  • Manage After School coordinator and work with them to oversee long-term growth of the program
  • Take an active interest in career growth, including learning new skills, staying current on industry trends, and constantly innovating and taking calculated risks
  • Work closely with early childhood, preschool, and after-school programs to create cohesive family engagement pathways, and provide support to coworkers
  • Regularly assess local competition to determine brand positioning and opportunities for growth
  • Partner with marketing team to build consistent messaging across camp and family programming 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in camp leadership, youth programming, or family engagement 
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • Demonstrated success in program growth and community building 
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously 
  • Experience supervising staff and managing operational logistics 
  • Marketing and outreach experience, including both digital and grassroots strategies 
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working with diverse families 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends during program periods 
  • Excellent computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite, and the ability to learn new systems quickly 

CPR, AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
