This is a builder-focused Data Scientist / Data Analytics Developer role supporting institutional analytics in a higher-education environment. You will design and deliver scalable analytics solutions that enable data-informed decision-making across enrollment, student success, academic operations, and institutional effectiveness.
- Develop scalable data analytics solutions using SQL, Python, R, and modern data tooling to translate stakeholder needs into production deliverables
- Build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and automation to improve data delivery and institutional workflows
- Write, review, and optimize code for data processing, statistical analysis, and visualization to support reporting and decision making
- Design data models, statistical analyses, and algorithms to extract actionable insights from large, complex datasets
- Create and maintain dashboards and analytical products using tools such as Tableau and/or AWS QuickSight
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and governance through validation, quality checks, and documentation
- Troubleshoot data issues and iterate on data architecture, pipelines, and analytics processes to improve reliability and performance
- Communicate technical concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Work on mission-driven, high-impact analytics projects that inform institutional strategy and student success initiatives

The analytics unit supports data-informed decision-making across the institution. The team combines data engineering, predictive analytics, institutional reporting, and business intelligence to produce dashboards, analytical tools, and scalable data solutions used by campus leadership and operational units.
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two (2) years of directly relevant experience. Additional experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Strong programming skills in SQL and at least one of: Python or R
- Experience developing scalable analytics solutions and working with large, diverse datasets
- Proficiency with BI and visualization tools (Tableau and/or AWS QuickSight preferred)
- Working knowledge of data modeling, statistical methods, and data engineering principles
- Experience building or supporting data pipelines, storage, transformation, and front-end delivery
- Understanding of data quality management, metadata practices, and data governance (including data privacy and security best practices)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Trello)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders
- Experience or familiarity with higher education reporting conventions and institutional research standards is a plus
- Salary range: $6,492.00 – $9,458.00 per month (CSU classification range). Actual salary offered will depend on experience, education, and qualifications and will be determined within the confidential client’s budget and equity guidelines.
