Job Description: Office Manager / Inside Sales Support

Classification: Permanent (non-seasonal), Part-Time, Hourly

General Overview:
EDK Group, LLC is a wholesale lumber company. We serve Shed Builders and Independent Lumber Yards. We believe that "A good name is better than great riches" (Prov 22:1), and we work hard every day to live up to that standard by keeping our commitments and providing excellent service to our customers. We provide a critical link in the supply chain for our customers, and they can’t do their job unless we do ours. They must be able to rely on us.

We are growing quickly and we're looking for someone to join us in an Office Manager / Inside Sales Support role. The essential job functions are listed below, but the bottom line is we need someone who has good office / admin and math skills, loves to keep things organized, and - above all - has a heart that is eager to learn and be helpful. We can teach you the lumber business - you have to bring the heart.

Duties:

  • General office / admin tasks - mail, bank deposits, supplies, etc.
  • Keep organized records for accounting and compliance purposes.
  • Document all business processes so we can teach others as we grow … and so we can figure out how to do things when you are on vacation.
  • Answer phones and handle general in-bound communication.
  • Support the processes for customers - sales orders, shipping tickets, invoicing, etc.
  • Support the processes for vendors - purchase orders, bill entry, truck scheduling, etc.
  • Support marketing processes - customer lists, mailings, brochures, etc.
  • Support inventory management and reporting.
  • Help coordinate and manage calendars, appointments, and meetings.
  • Manage office related vendor relationships such as phone systems, IT support, etc.
  • Do whatever needs to be done, but make absolutely certain that we do a good job for our customers.

Requirements:

  • Good general skills with Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), internet, and web-based applications.
  • Good internal and external communications skills, phone, email, letters, memos, etc.
  • Interact well with customers when they call – take orders, answer questions, etc.
  • Very good aptitude for basic math. We don’t need calc or trig but the footage calculations, lumber tallies, and invoices have to be right every time.
  • Detail oriented - spelling mistakes and crooked mailing labels are just unprofessional.
  • Driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and a good driving record. Need to be able to make regular trips to the bank, post office, etc. (mileage re-imbursed).
  • Demonstrated experience fulfilling similar duties successfully.
  • Experience in lumber or related industries is helpful, but not a requirement.
  • A high school diploma (or equivalent) and good grades in high school are required. A post-high-school degree is helpful but not a requirement.
  • Demonstrated track record (with references to support) of skill requirements and a genuinely helpful attitude is absolutely essential.
  • Ability to sit for 6 hours, carry up to 25 lbs., climb stairs, walk on uneven ground

Schedule / Travel:
We’re looking for someone who can work a generally consistent office-based schedule of about 25 to 30 hours per week. We’re flexible on what that schedule looks like. Anything like 9 to 3, 10 to 4, 7 to 2 would work and we know that life happens, we’re just looking for a generally reliable and consistent schedule. Monday to Friday. Anything weekends or evenings would only be in emergencies or for occasional planned events like a company picnic. Some work from home is OK when needed, but should not be a regular thing.

  • Travel to the bank and post office should take place several times per week at a minimum.
  • Other local travel to vendors or customers is likely to be necessary a few times per month.
  • Occasional travel to spend time learning about our customers and their businesses is considered a good training / development activity and should be planned for at least a couple times per year.
  • No overnight travel is expected unless there is a really great training opportunity or something similar that this employee wants to pursue.
  • All travel is paid for / reimbursed by the company. Employees are responsible for their commute to work. After that, it’s on the company.

Compensation / Benefits:
Our philosophy is to pay well for the right people and to share when the company is successful. This is a permanent (non-seasonal), part-time, hourly role. We anticipate that the successful candidate will earn $20 to $24/hour or more depending on experience and qualifications.

All permanent (non-seasonal) employees who have been with the company for 90 days are eligible for:
