Grandview Heights Schools is seeking a Full-Time Paraprofessional for the 2026-2027 school year. This position will be at the Middle School and will work from 8am-3pm.
Title: Paraprofessional
Reports To: Building Principal and Chief Student Growth & Development Officer
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required, Associate’s degree preferred
- Educational Aide certificate, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire
- Pass all FBI & BCI checks
- Student-centered focus
- Ability to serve as a positive role model for students and staff
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the position on a daily basis:
- Climb steps
- Lift up to 40 pounds
- Transport children using various equipment
- Perform minor health related tasks (diapering, feeding tube, seizure plans)
Position Summary:
Contributes to the efficient operation of the building/district program by performing essential job functions, demonstrates knowledge of students’ needs, including but not limited to: educational, physical, sensory, recreational, vocational, speech/language, and social/emotional as established by a multidisciplinary team, attend work on a regular basis and arrives on time and prepared and willing to assist in the classroom and other areas as needed, demonstrate effective organizational skills, time management, initiative, and flexibility in order to students’ and staff needs, assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director Student Services, the building principal, intervention specialists, and/or classroom teachers, and assumes responsibility for continued professional growth to fully support educational programming. Adjust to various locations and work requirements as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
Instructional Assistance:
- Assist with student arrival and departure as needed
- Assist students in readiness for class
- Assist with field trips, assemblies, and special functions within the scheduled work day
- Supervise activities on the playground and lunchroom for all building students
- Monitor and assist assigned students as they travel to designated areas throughout the school as directed by certificated staff or administrators, including but not limited to restrooms, cafeteria, playground and special areas
- Assist students in restrooms as needed (supervise washroom breaks, diaper changing, clothing changes, and/or personal hygiene)
- Transfer, lift, or position students, as well as assist students in the use of wheelchairs, standers, or other mobility devices
- Assist classroom teachers with maintaining inclusive, learner-centered environments
- Assist students with life-skills based on the curriculum
- Monitor and assist students in using assistive technology devices
- Help students implement and self-manage organizational skills
- Facilitate appropriate social interactions among students by prompting, modeling, and reinforcing social behaviors in small group or classroom settings
Communication and Collaboration:
- Consult and/or meet with teachers and other staff utilizing appropriate channels by engaging in positive solution-finding steps to resolve areas of concern and to request direction, instruction, or guidance for new or unfamiliar tasks
- Provide and communicate information regarding students in a timely manner
- Refer questions from families to appropriate personnel
- Establish and maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, and families
- Model appropriate hygiene, appearance, interaction, and actions
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student and school information
- Interact with others in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Assist other members of the Paraprofessional team as needed
Specific Area-Assigned Paraprofessionals (in addition to the above):
Classroom Special Education/Cross-Categorical Resource Room Paraprofessional
- Implement IEP modifications and accommodations as directed by certificated staff
- Demonstrate knowledge of behavioral and emotional disturbances
- Interest in and willingness to learn about students with disabilities including but not limited to defiant behavior, Autism, Bipolar, Depression, Anxiety
- Work with small groups within a class as directed
- Function as program or classroom instructional assistant but may be assigned as a one- one instructional assistant
- Work one-one with student for assignment completion, testing, projects or other academic needs when directed
- Document student behavior in accordance with IEP goals and objectives
- Accompany student(s) to class, take notes, and communicate effectively with classroom teachers
