PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Licensed Specialist In School Psychology is directly responsible to the Special Education Director. The function of the Licensed Specialist In School Psychology is to enhance the knowledge and skills of district staff in providing educational services for students with disabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed as Specialist in School Psychology
Capable of working very closely with teachers and staff members, parents and special needs students
Familiar with the roles of the other special education personnel and the procedure for utilizing their services when necessary
Extensive knowledge in diagnostic and assessment instruments
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Appraisal Management
- Serves on the appraisal team with responsibilities in assessing, compiling, and interprets this information into a written report which students needing a psychological evaluation follows Individual with Disabilities Education Act (Idea) and Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines for each disability and/or related services.
- Complies with all federal, state, local and campus policies, operating procedures and legal requirements.
- Reviews, follows, and maintains evaluative techniques, kits, manuals etc. as needed.
- Maintains a list of students requiring three-year reevaluations and completes all assessments within the required time period.
- Utilizes technology to facilitate in scoring, interpreting and in developing assessment reports.
ARD Process Management
- Assists in organizing data collected by the appraisal process into individual educational plans based on the profile of strengths and weaknesses during initial assessments and new to district placements.
- Participates as a required member of the Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data, development of Individual Education Plans (IEP), and appropriate placement to determine appropriate educational programming for special education students.
- Compiles, reviews and interprets new information received from other districts and/or professional agencies.
Case Management
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, teachers, and other professionals concerning vital issues of the assessment process.
- Maintains confidentiality of all student information.
- Uses appropriate and accurate written, verbal, and non-verbal communication when conferring with parents, staff, and other professionals.
School and Organizational Climate
- Works collaboratively and constructively with colleagues and other professionals towards meeting individual student needs.
- Serves as a liaison between campus and the Special Education Department.
- Promotes and supports environment which is conducive to positive staff morale and directed towards achievement of the campus’, departments and district’s mission.
Professional Growth and Development
- Takes initiative to participate in professional development activities correlated to the child-centered process with emphasis on special education assessments (i, e. IDEA, TEA requirements and District Effectiveness Compliance reference guide).
- Provides information to staff (regular and special education) and/or parents related to the child-centered process and assessment.
- Conducts oneself in a professional ethical manner in accordance with generally accepted community standards, complies with TEA Code of Ethics and serves as role model for all district staff.
- Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

lifting and carrying test materials of moderate weight; repetitive hand and wrist motions; frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel.
