The Custodial Supervisor – 2nd/3rd Shift reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities Operations, who maintains overall responsibility for the University’s custodial program.
This role primarily supports second and third shift operations. The typical schedule is Monday through Thursday, approximately 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Friday schedule varies and is determined based on operational needs and staff availability.

Responsibilities
Supervision, Training, & Quality Control
- Supervise assigned second- and third-shift custodial employees and student workers, including daily scheduling, task assignment, coaching, and performance documentation.
- Provide input to the Assistant Director regarding employee performance evaluations and corrective action.
- Train and reinforce established procedures for cleaning techniques, equipment operation, safety protocols, and efficient use of custodial materials.
- Inspect completed work, identify deficiencies, and direct follow-up cleaning or other corrective work to meet established cleanliness and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate shift, attendance, performance documentation, and training records as required.
- Monitor employee adherence to established safety procedures, chemical-handling requirements, and University custodial policies; report concerns or recurring issues to the Assistant Director.
- Report facility hazards or safety risks as needed.
- Clean classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, and common areas.
- Operate various types of cleaning machines, i.e. floor machines, waxers, and polishers.
- Empty trash, recycling, and refuse containers.
- Perform snow removal as needed.
- Support upkeep of parking structures and ensure proper recycling practices.
- Monitor custodial supply levels and order routine materials in accordance with established purchasing procedures and approved inventory levels.
- Maintain organized custodial closets and supply inventories and monitor proper chemical storage.
- Inspect custodial equipment, coordinate routine repairs, and report replacement needs to the Assistant Director.
- Coordinate custodial support for room setups and University events during assigned shifts.
- Serve on Facilities-related committees as assigned.
- Assist the Assistant Director of Facilities Operations with custodial projects, documentation, and other operational needs as assigned.
- Coordinate assigned custodial work with Event Services to prepare residence halls and other spaces for summer program occupants.
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three years of custodial experience, including at least one year in a lead or supervisory role; experience supervising a multi-shift or large custodial team preferred.
- Knowledge of custodial procedures, chemicals, and equipment.
- Ability to train staff effectively in cleaning techniques and equipment use.
- Computer literacy including Word, Excel, and ability to learn new systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct group training sessions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and University partners.
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a satisfactory background check
- Proficiency in Spanish preferred
- Knowledge of custodial procedures, chemicals, and equipment.
- Ability to train staff effectively in cleaning techniques and equipment use.
- Computer literacy including Word, Excel, and ability to learn new systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct group training sessions.
