Description Of Job

As part of the Dean of Students (DOS) Office, the Assistant Director will serve as a student conduct hearing officer, as well as provide guidance for related institutional and divisional policy development and implementation. The Assistant Director also provides outreach for students needing support due to challenges impacting their wellbeing and will help develop plans for support and provide referrals to other resources on and off campus. The Assistant Director will coordinate and support programming and initiatives promoting student wellbeing across campus. The Assistant Director works within the DOS Office and will have other duties that support the general functions of the DOS Office. The Assistant Director will have a high amount of contact with students and will need to partner with colleagues to best support our students.

Responsibilities

Community Standards

  • Serves as one of the two primary student conduct officers, assessing, researching, developing, implementing, and updating consistently all related procedures, training, publications and website related to nonacademic and academic misconduct
  • Reviews incident reports, meets with involved parties, investigates incidents, and adjudicates cases according to established codes of conduct and policies.
  • Provides case management for nonacademic and informal academic misconduct, from intake to sanction completion
  • Works with and supports faculty reporting incidents of informal academic misconduct
  • Manage the Student Complaint Process and support students who present concerns regarding their experience at Edgewood University
  • Works with students and governance to assess policies, procedures, and sanction development
  • Design, implement, and assess effectiveness of sanctions used in the misconduct process
  • Assists with assessment and implementation of policies, procedures, and sanction development
  • Assists with proactive education, training, and outreach for faculty, staff, and students on behavior expectations and guidelines, student code of conduct, and all related topics (e.g. civility, community living, etc.)
  • Works with campus Security and local law enforcement on incidents of on and off campus misconduct
  • Maintains communication and professional collaborations with area University/university student conduct offices
  • Provide publishing and communication to the campus of all related misconduct publications, forms, and documents

Student Wellbeing

  • Manages Eagle Cares student cases, procedures, and processes associated with student support and threat assessment/response
  • Meet with and engage with students through various means to provide care, support, and resources for students and incoming students who have challenges with their wellbeing, including health/wellness, academics, behavior, safety or their general welfare, basic needs resources, public benefit assistance and financial concerns
  • Refer students, parents/families, and other campus colleagues to appropriate resources, supports, campus offices, and internal or external services
  • Communicates progress with other campus staff and faculty members as appropriate
  • Maintains up-to-date records for all student cases by using Maxient database software. Create reports as necessary and Utilize Maxient software to document incoming and outgoing communications including behavioral reports, requests for campus resources, meeting notes, document collection, and action logs
  • Understand, apply, and communicate applicable University policies (e.g., medical withdrawals.) with students and other stakeholders
  • Support and administer various basic needs insecurity programs and functions
  • Work with and develop relationships with community partners in order to enhance support services available to Edgewood University students
  • Remains up to date with all campus procedures and policies impacting students throughout their entire enrollment

Dean of Students Office Support

  • Coordinate compliance with local, state, and Federal laws and mandates related to pandemic response, Clery, Title IX, etc.
  • Support students involved in the Title IX/sexual misconduct response process
  • Participate in communication/outreach efforts on behalf of the Dean of Students Office, including presentations to faculty, staff, and students about the Eagle Cares Team, Dean of Students Office, and related processes, along with the creation of other communication/outreach tools
  • Support and implement educational programs and workshops on topics including, but not limited to general wellness, alcohol and other drugs, stress management, sleep and rest, movement, financial literacy, and social relationships for our undergraduate, traditional students and our graduate and adult learner populations
  • Manage programs and campus partnerships around basic needs insecurity
  • Partner with departments, including but not limited to the Personal Counseling Services, Student Health Services, Residence Life, and Athletics for wellness programs and campaigns
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Vice President for Student Development/Dean of Students

Professional Development

  • Participate in continuous professional development around student conduct, student support, case management, and compliance management within a higher education and student affairs framework

University Service

  • Represent the Division of Student Development on institutional committees, task forces, and groups. Also serves on Student Development division-wide committees
  • Serve as member of the Student Development staff attending meetings and retreats
  • Participate in campus events as a department and division representative

Job Qualifications

Necessary Education or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, adult and learning development, or a closely related field, Masters preffered
  • Supporting students and/or coordinating individual services for students and/or clients
  • Investigating and adjudicating student nonacademic misconduct
  • Supporting students and/or coordinating individual services for students and/or clients
  • Experience working in a student affairs/higher education environment is a plus
  • Experience responding to crisis situations is a plus
