The Nurse Extern functions as a developing clinician at Edgerton Hospital and performs direct and indirect patient care activities within the full scope of registered nursing practice under the direct supervision of an RN.
Duties include:
- Assists with assessments, interventions, procedures, and ongoing patient monitoring
- Performs advanced nursing skills delegated and supervised by a registered nurse
- Assists with clerical and support tasks such as reception, patient registration, admission/discharge/transfer processes, and documentation of diagnostic testing requirements
- Collaborates closely with the healthcare team
- Utilizes strong communication skills to collect accurate patient information
- Supports safe, efficient care delivery while adhering to professional and organizational standards.
Advanced Skills to be performed:
These skills include, but are not limited to:
- Phlebotomy
- IV insertion
- Foley insertion
- Straight catheterization
- Sterile technique and set up for procedures
- Medication Administration (all routes-PO, IM, SQ, IV, IVP, IO, rectal, etc.)
Skills deemed competent by supervising Registered Nurse
Enrollment in senior year of an ADN OR BSN program (last year or completion year) at an accredited school of nursing
- Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician Certification preferred
- Basic Life Support Certificate (CPR) current or obtained prior to independent patient care.
- Clerical skills with computer preferred
We are looking for an individual seeking a temporary, part-time Nurse Extern position.
Specifics:
- .5 FTE (20 hours per week)
- Position will be for only 8-12 weeks
