Our Pharmacy Technician reports to the Director of Pharmacy and supports Edgerton Hospital & Health Services by performing the following duties:
- Accurately records which drugs require ordering and in what quantity; accurately generates, evaluates, and transmits drug orders; and properly processes drug orders upon receipt.
- Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly.
- Rotates stocks throughout the hospital to ensure use before the expiration date and identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
- Prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages and compounds medications in accordance with all department policies.
- Prepares parenteral admixtures and other sterile products accurately (including hyperalimentation (TPN) and cancer chemotherapy drugs if so trained) for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately.
- Accurately fills prescriptions and inpatient drug orders for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Fills anesthesia trays and stock requisitions accurately.
- Restocks medications in the IV dispensing area, emergency crash carts, and floor stock (including Pyxis machines) accurately.
- Accurately and appropriately applies charges for medications leaving the pharmacy and credits for doses returned.
- Picks up orders, requisitions and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
- Process telephone calls promptly, identifying self and department, and directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Makes basic computer entries, generates reports and labels, and utilizes other functions of the Information System (IS) as required.
- Maintains logs, records and other required documentation accurately, and files that documentation in appropriate locations.
- Keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean, neat, and well organized.
- Pharmacy technician licensure through DSPS is required; pharmacy technician certification through PTCB or other certifying entity is preferred but not required.
- Hospital experience preferred.
