Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator / Quoting Specialist to join our upholstered seating furniture manufacturing team. This role is responsible for preparing detailed, accurate, and competitive cost estimates for both custom and standard furniture projects. The position requires a strong understanding of furniture manufacturing processes, particularly upholstery—as well as materials, labor, and overhead costs. This role works cross-functionally with sales, engineering, design, production, and purchasing teams to ensure quotes are aligned with company goals, manufacturing capabilities, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Quoting & Cost Estimation
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to develop accurate quotes and cost estimates.
- Calculate material and component costs (e.g., fabric, foam, wood, hardware).
- Estimate labor costs based on construction methods such as cutting, sewing, upholstery, and assembly.
- Prepare detailed pricing proposals, including overhead and profit margins.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner with sales to understand customer needs and timelines.
- Coordinate with engineering and design teams to verify manufacturability and accuracy.
- Communicate with suppliers and purchase to obtain current pricing and lead times.
Cost Analysis & Data Management
- Identify cost-saving opportunities in materials, processes, or vendor relationships.
- Support the development of pricing models and margin analysis.
Reporting & Documentation
- Use quoting software, spreadsheets, and ERP/MRP systems to streamline processes.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and production planning efforts.
Required Qualifications:
- 1 years of experience in cost estimation or quoting, preferably in furniture manufacturing (especially upholstered products).
- Strong knowledge of furniture construction, upholstery techniques, and materials.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and quoting/ERP software.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in industrial design, Engineering, Business, or related field.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or value engineering principles.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Office setting with occasional visits to the production floor.
- Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday. 8 am-5pm (1 hour lunch) Occasional overtime may be required.
