Overview:
EDG is seeking a Special Inspector with strong technical expertise and leadership ability to join our team. The ideal candidate will take charge of their work, show initiative, and drive projects forward through proactive coordination and decision-making. This role requires someone who can confidently manage inspection activities, solve problems in the field, and ensure quality and compliance on every project.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and coordinate special inspections and materials testing for renovation and restoration projects throughout NYC.
- Take ownership of assigned projects: plan, schedule, and coordinate inspections from start to finish.
- Oversee inspection activities for reinforced concrete, masonry, structural steel, bolting, and welding.
- Verify construction work and materials comply with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Prepare clear and accurate daily inspection reports, photographs, and field documentation.
- Work closely with clients, contractors, and engineers to resolve field issues and maintain project timelines.
- Use AutoCAD and other technical tools to review drawings, create markups, and document field findings.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of field inspection experience in the NYC region.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for drawings, markups, and inspection documentation (preferred)
- Proven ability to take initiative, manage priorities, and coordinate multiple ongoing projects.
- Strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for client and team interaction.
- Familiarity with NYC DOB and IBC Chapter 17 inspection requirements.
Certifications:
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
- ICC Reinforced Concrete (Rebar) Special Inspector
- ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector
- ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
- ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector or AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) (preferred)
