Salary Range
:
The full pay range for this role is $ $47.00 per hour. The target range for this position is $27.00 to $38 per hour. We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and/leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.
Scope of Job
:
Under the direction of the Site Manager or designee, you will be responsible for the unsupervised maintenance, troubleshooting, major repair, installation, and commissioning of utility-scale renewable energy assets, including PV (Photovoltaics) and BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems). All positions require in-depth knowledge of safety procedures, technical documentation, and a commitment to operational excellence. Candidates will be placed at the level Technician 3 or Technician 4 commensurate with their experience, qualifications, and successful completion of internal competency standards.
Required Training
:
Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend mandatory five (5) week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided.

Shared Key Responsibilities (Applicable to both Tech 3 & 4)
- Perform unsupervised corrective and preventative maintenance on utility-scale renewable energy assets and energy storage systems (BESS/PV).
- Conduct commissioning and recommissioning activities including insulation testing, performance testing (IV curve, irradiance), thermal imagery, and system performance evaluations.
- Lead site safety assessments, team engagement visits, and equipment inspections.
- Lead daily safety meetings, identify hazards, follow all safety regulations, and accurately complete required safety documentation.
- Accurately complete all administrative work, including daily maintenance logs, warranty/inventory documentation, service reports, and timecards.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for system monitoring, fault identification, and system resets.
- Support site budget control by seeking efficiencies and timely repairs to decrease operating loss factor (OLF).
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Technician 3: Minimum of 4 to 5 years of experience in renewable energy or a similar technical discipline.
- Technician 4: Minimum of 5 years of in-depth renewable energy experience or a similar technical discipline.
Required Certifications (Applicable To Both Tech 3 & 4)
- OSHA 10 or equivalent certification.
- Global Wind Organization (GWO) certifications: Basic Safety Training (BST), Basic Technical Training (BTT), Control of Hazardous Energies (CoHE), and Slinger and Signaler (If applicable to asset type).
- NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B or equivalent certification.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Must possess a valid current driver's license.
- Proficiency in using advanced diagnostic tools, understanding system software, and familiarity with the latest industry standards.
- Deep competency in the theory of Renewable Energy systems, sub-components, and generation theory.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical safety, arc flash standards, and National Electric Code (NEC) requirements.
- Ability to read and understand complex electrical and mechanical schematics, drawings, technical data, and construction documents.
- Working knowledge of industry-related OSHA regulations and experience with company software (SaaS, DAS, CMMS, Microsoft Suite, etc.).
- Ability to communicate clearly, write, and speak in English.
Technician 4 Additional Skills:
Must have an
advanced working knowledge
of solar industry best practices and the ability to effectively
coach, instruct, and train
less experienced technicians.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Physical Demands
The role requires the ability to perform physical tasks, including but not limited to:
- Regularly lifting and/or moving up to 35 pounds and frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, crouch, walk, and work for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights of more than 91 meters (300 feet).
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces. (Note: Due to fall-arrest equipment, maximum employee weight must not exceed 285 lbs. for Wind-related roles).
Working Conditions
- Technician 3: Approximately 100% of time is spent working in the renewable asset field.
- Technician 4: Approximately 80% of time is spent working in the renewable asset field, with 20% in the office environment.
- Regular exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind), high voltage/stored energy, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
