Summer Camp Counselor (Seasonal)

Position Overview:

Join EdenAcres Environmental Education in fostering a love for the outdoors and experiential learning among children of all ages. As a Summer Camp Counselor, you will assist lead teachers in planning, facilitating, and supervising activities that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Set in a dynamic outdoor environment, this role is perfect for those who are passionate about nature, enjoy working with children, and thrive in a collaborative and vibrant educational setting.

Responsibilities:

• Activity Facilitation: Assist in the development and supervision of age-appropriate activities including arts and crafts, environmental education, science projects, and nature hikes.
• Safety and Well-Being: Ensure the safety of all campers by adhering to camp safety policies and being vigilant about campers' needs and the environment.
• Relationship Building: Foster meaningful relationships with campers, ensuring a supportive, inclusive, and empowering camp experience for each child.
• Camp Maintenance: Assist with the upkeep of camp materials and spaces, ensuring a clean and organized environment.

Preferred Characteristics:

• A robust passion for outdoor education and a strong appreciation for the natural world.
• Previous experience working with children in diverse settings, capable of meeting the needs of a wide age range and abilities.
• Proficient in basic wilderness skills and familiar with the local flora and fauna.
• Creativity in developing engaging activities that connect children with nature.
• First Aid and CPR certifications are highly desirable.

Requirements:

• Minimum age of 17 years.
• Demonstrated experience in youth education or outdoor programming.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and being active for extended periods.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effective teamwork and emergency responsiveness.
• A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a readiness to work in a culturally responsive manner.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time seasonal position from June 15 to August 19, with the week of July 4th off.
• Outdoor work environment, with activities conducted in various weather conditions.
