Position Summary
EDEN PRAIRIE RESIDENTIAL CARE SERVICES LLC, a licensed Adult Foster Care (AFC) provider in Lansing, Michigan, is seeking a qualified and compassionate Direct Care Worker (DCW) to provide supervision, protection, and personal care services in accordance with Michigan Adult Foster Care Licensing Rules.
The Direct Care Worker (DCW) is responsible for ensuring residents’ health, safety, dignity, and well-being while maintaining compliance with state licensing requirements, documentation standards, and confidentiality regulations. The DCW will work an 8-hour shift from 11:00pm to 7:00am and must be willing to work weekends and holidays (staff rotation on weekends and holidays).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Resident Supervision & Protection
- Provide continuous supervision and protection of residents in accordance with AFC licensing standards
- Observe and promptly report changes in residents’ physical, emotional, or behavioral condition
- Provide specialized care for residents with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or cognitive impairments
- Provide compassionate end-of-life support when applicable
Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene
- Assist with feeding and meal preparation according to dietary plans
- Support mobility and transfers using appropriate equipment (including Hoyer lifts when necessary)
- Encourage and promote independence consistent with each resident’s Individual Plan of Service (IPOS)
Medication & Health Monitoring
- Administer medications as prescribed and authorized under AFC licensing rules
- Maintain accurate medication logs and documentation
- Monitor and document vital signs as required
- Communicate health-related concerns to supervisors and healthcare professionals
Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Maintain accurate and timely daily service notes
- Complete incident reports in accordance with licensing requirements
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems (if applicable) for proper medical documentation
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards
Environmental & Household Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary residential environment
- Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation as required
- Ensure the home remains hazard-free and compliant with AFC safety standards
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to meet Michigan Adult Foster Care staff qualification requirements
- Must complete and sign the Michigan Workforce Background Check Consent and Disclosure Form
- Successful clearance through the State of Michigan workforce background screening
- Ability to lift, transfer, and physically assist residents
- Strong observation and documentation skills
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards
Preferred:
- Experience in AFC homes, assisted living, nursing homes, or behavioral health settings
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Experience with dementia care
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Experience using EMR/EHR systems
