Lead Machinist

Eddie Kane Steel Products has been a family owned and operated business providing exceptional service in the steel industry for over 26 years. The company motto has always been to "Treat others as you would have them treat you" and we are in search of a full time Lead Machinist.

General Description: Proficient in CNC Machining and Knowledge of Blanchard-Shafer Grinding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Follows all safety guidelines and standards.
• Assist in quoting of contract jobs.
• Assist other machinist on solving issues that arise.
• Check all documentation before beginning a work order.
• Check material for size and correct dimensions as well as quantity before beginning the work order.
• Setup machine and/or any tooling required to machine/grind the parts.
• Ensure tooling is available for shop schedule.
• Run a scratch test to ensure proper program is loaded into CNC machine
• Record all information on work order.
• Complete Production Log daily.
• Clean and maintain work area.
• Performs general lubrication maintenance to the work center.
• Maintain neat and accurate written documentation as required.
• Report any problems or quality concerns to supervisor immediately.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Skills:

• Ability to read Micrometers, calipers and tape measure
• CNC experience as well as Blanchard type grinding experience
• Basic reading and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
• Proficient in Fanuc and Haas controls
• Proficient in tooling used in machining
• Experience in AWEA and Haas machines a plus
• Dexterity skills & balance
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
• Ability to lift (with hands & arms), bend, stoop, squat, stand or walk for extended periods of time
• Good oral & written communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others
• Ability to run overhead crane
• Ability to become forklift certified

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Minimum 10 years experience in machining

Expectations:

• Work in a safe and controlled manner and operate equipment within the designated capacity
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times. Use any available time to clean work area and ensure all debris is disposed of properly.
• Promptly report any accidents, incidents, near misses or hazardous conditions to your supervisor
• Familiarity with all EKSP forms, documents, reports related to your job function, including but not limited to forms and reports related to inventory, logistics, & production/operations departments
• Maintain neat and accurate written production documentation as required
• Communicate all pertinent job related information to supervisor/manager on a daily basis
• Forward-thinking while learning from errors, with focus on quality and customer service, solutions and continual improvements
• Focus on efficiencies and time- and labor-saving steps; cost reduction
• Performs all duties as assigned

As a steel service center and distributor of hot-rolled prime and non-prime steel plate, Eddie Kane Steel sells on- and off-gauge, pattern and non-pattern plate sizes, ranging in thickness from 3/16 to 8 inches. Eddie Kane Steel maintains a diverse inventory of prime and non-prime steel plate and, for its strategic customer partners, stock inventory of custom-made parts. Value-added products include OEM parts, counterweights, and steel burn outs for diverse industries, including the waste industry, general building construction, transportation, agricultural and industrial equipment, drilling, theatrical stage, and elevator industries.
Eddie Kane Steel’s flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail.
Eddie Kane Steel’s processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface. Through close partnerships with vendors offering proven high-quality workmanship, we provide services such as painting and coating, stamping, embossing, slitting, sawing, turning, annealing, leveling, and pressing.
