What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paintline Operator II position at EDCO Products, Inc.?
Position Overview
The Paintline Operator I is a valued member of the EDCO Products Paintline team. This full-time, non-exempt position is based in Hopkins, MN, and reports to the Paintline Supervisor. This is a 2nd shift position with normal working hours of Monday - Thursday, 3pm-1:30am. Success will be defined by your ability to pull down and set up coils for proper paint run, in order from largest to smallest size, and place finished product in the proper area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate air switches to open and close paint heads for upper coater and lever to open and close paint heads on lower coater to allow stitch to pass and other material defects before applying any layer of coating
- Monitor and make adjustments (as directed by QC Operator, Lead, or Supervisor) to all areas on the upper and lower coaters as needed
- Monitor the use of all solvents, paint, primer, backer, and 1402w Banderite and replenish all as necessary
- Complete Daily Coater Run Sheet at the start and end of shift and/or at the start/end of paint run
- Monitor and write down the number of gallons used for each shop order, for all parts that pertain to each order Paint, primer, backer, ink, etc.
- Prepare the rollers for all 4 spots on upper and lower coater and assist OP II, QC , or Lead to set up rollers for shop order/ paint changes.
- Operate Forklifts for paint drum and roller changes
- Check forklift daily with checklist to ensure proper and safe functioning
- Keep workspace clean and free of clutter with paint or solvents in their designated areas
- Clean all tools, pumps, mixers, buckets, hoses and all other pieces after each use during paint change or shutdown.
- Prepare the coater area for continuous run or next order between shifts
- Perform main roller (crown, drive, flat) roller changes with team
- Perform paint and other chemical inventory with QC Operator and/or Lead
- Unload trucks in Receiving Department
- Enter new Inventory into IFS, NetSuite, and/or Paintline Spreadsheets
- Operate the WC150 Recycling and reclaim machine and process
Competencies & Qualifications
Will be in a period of training for approximately 3-6 months to see majority of paint runs and ensure competency on all types of set ups and runs. Must be able work with paint, solvents, chromate solutions, grease, oils
- Move lift 150lbs with hoist or operator assistance and 75lbs alone
- Able to learn timing of various tasks that involve replenishing chemicals, line speeds, paint buckets etc.
- Must be able to spot defects in paint consistency, Metals, and Coater room set up, as well as changes in material or Banderite chemicals up to 75ft.
- Ability to learn and recall various types of paint, and how to set up, and clean each type
- Work with various tools and chemicals like solvents and paints
- Ability to understand Paintline processes
- Able to stand, kneel, work in semi-confined areas for extended periods of time
- Able to withstand working in temperatures that may exceed 85 degrees with a hydration breaks
- Familiar with Microsoft Excel, or can learn to use program for data entry

Working Environment
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, and heat (proper PPE & safety training will be provided)
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Water treatment, Refinishing Rollers, and other ancillary duties: Operator II staff who are not assigned to the coater or train for Primary QC Operator role will perform Water Treatment, refinishing rollers and squeegees, operating the WC 150 Recycler, and any other tasks assigned by supervisory or management staff. Operator II will train Operator I positions and duties and will assist in any general maintenance as necessary, or as directed by the lead or supervisor.
