North Scott Schools is looking to hire a School Nurse at Ed White Elementary School.
BEGINNING: 2026-2027 School Year
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PK-12 School Nurse Iowa License (175) or RN Degree
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: Enhance the health and educational success of students by providing comprehensive health services, promoting a healthy school environment, and collaborating with educators, parents, and community resources.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Renders first aid to and/or obtain emergency assistance for sick and/or injured students.
- Instruct school personnel to act competently when nurse is out of building.
- Report sickness, accidents, and emergencies to the building principal and/or District Superintendent.
- Acts as liaison between school/home, doctor/school on matters concerning student health.
- Maintains accurate, up-to-date health records on all students.
- Facilitates various health screening procedures, records, results, and referral follow-ups.
- Establishes good student dental hygiene practices.
- Records and reports all communicable diseases in the district according to the Iowa Department of Health guidelines.
- Regularly reviews attendance records in each building; follow-up on health concerns for students who have a history of poor attendance.
- Creates and participates in implementation of Individual Health Plans for students with significant medical needs.
- Supervises all medication administration and trains other staff, pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 204
- Serves as the District’s Special Education Nurse (Iowa Administrative Code 281.41 (9) (1995) a. Assesses, identifies, and evaluates health needs of eligible individuals b. Interprets for family and educational personnel how health needs relate to education
- Examines students with potential child abuse injuries; conducts legal reporting and follow-up as required by law.
- Provide effective health education to caregivers, parents, and staff, promoting healthy lifestyle choices and preventing disease and injury.
- Verifies completeness of health information for all new students and all kindergartners
- Performs quarterly analysis of district immunization records - prepares for annual audit in October.
- Facilitates low-cost medical care for families without adequate resources
- Creates materials for newsletter communication
- Performs required tasks to ensure compliance with Bloodborne Pathogen OSHA Regulation 1910:1030
- Routinely inventory and order necessary medical supplies throughout the year.
- Participates in creating and implementing District’s Special Health Services policy pursuant to Iowa Administrative Code (281-41.96(2) (1995)
- Ensure that the school complies with all health regulations and standards, maintaining a safe and healthy school environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten month year. Salary established by the Board.
