Position Overview As a Heavy-Duty Diesel & Fleet Equipment Technician, you are responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of our commercial fleet. While the core focus is Class 6-8 heavy-duty diesel trucks, this role also services light-duty support vehicles, mobile equipment, and specialized propane/fuel delivery systems. Your work ensures our fleet operates safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Heavy & Light-Duty Maintenance: Perform comprehensive mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy-duty diesel trucks (Class 6-8), light-duty fleet vehicles, and support equipment.

  • Propane & Fuel Systems: Inspect, troubleshoot, service, and repair propane delivery systems, cargo fuel tanks, pumping systems, valves, meters, hoses, and PTO (Power Take-Off) drives.
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use advanced diagnostic software to identify issues with diesel engines, transmissions, air brakes, hydraulics, multiplex electrical systems, and DPF/SCR emissions systems.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Perform routine safety inspections, including annual DOT inspections. Ensure all tank and fuel delivery repairs comply with federal safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Shop & Fleet Operations: Accurately complete service paperwork and digital work orders in a timely manner. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop workspace.
  • Emergency & Field Service: Occasionally perform road service or emergency field repairs on downed fleet equipment as needed.


Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic.


Experience working on propane tanks, liquid fuel delivery systems, or hazardous material transport equipment is preferred.

  • Licensing: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required. CDL (Class A or B) with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of air brake systems, hydraulic circuits, fuel pumping machinery, 12V/24V electrical diagnostics, and diesel engine overhaul.
  • Certifications: DOT Inspector Certification preferred. (ASE certifications are not required; demonstrated practical experience and OEM/factory training are valued).
  • Tools: Must possess a complete personal set of professional hand and pneumatic/power tools up to at least 1-1/4" (shop provides specialized heavy tools and diagnostic equipment).


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 Ibs regularly.

  • Comfortable working under vehicles, in tight compartments, at elevated heights, and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and standing for long periods.
