As a Pathology Support Specialist, You Will
- Perform various secretarial, clerical, and receptionist activities, including answering phones, greeting visitors, and screening calls.
- Assist with charge entry on a timely basis.
- Assist with the purchase and distribution of office and medical supplies.
- Assist pathologists and residents with services as requested.
- Maintain patient-related documentation in patients medical records in a timely manner.
- Prepare charts, maintain and update forms, and prepare documentation paperwork.
- Assist with maintaining and monitoring medical record documentation and filing.
- Correctly file all patient documentation, verifying accuracy and completion of content.
- Open mail and distribute reports, supplies, and requests appropriately.
- Accurately check in returned patient blocks and slides from outside laboratories and clinics and update the EHR.
- Accurately mail out requested tissue blocks and slides to outside laboratories and clinics, documenting, and updating paperwork for proper archival updating.
- Maintain records of incoming blocks and slides from outside institutions and appropriately facilitate the return to the institutions when the materials are no longer needed.
- Scan outside pathology reports into the patient EHR and to HIMS (Health Information Management Systems).
- Assist the pathology librarian as needed for block/slide retrieval and filing.
- High School Diploma, Equivalent, or higher
- One to two years of formal medical assistant, medical office training, or customer service experience
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using EHR systems and other medical software.
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality.
- 40 hours per week
- Monday - Friday (7:30 am - 4 pm or 8 am - 4:30 pm)
- Required to work rotational holidays
