Position Summary
The Health Sciences paid internship provides seniors who are enrolled in the Health Sciences Academy an opportunity to begin learning an occupation using a system that combines on the job training and related academic and technical instruction. Students will have to compete with other students for internship positions according to the employers requirements. Students may be required to complete applications, to be interviewed to take aptitude tests, and to submit to drug screening and a criminal record check in order to be considered for placement with an industry in the internship program. Students must provide their own transportation. Students must complete a minimum of 180 hours of work each semester for a total of 360 hours per year in order to earn two units of credit. Students will receive a grade based on the students job performance as determined by the employers evaluation each six weeks.

The 142-bed full-service hospital is located in Washington and has earned national designation as a Primary Stroke Center. It is home to a 16-bed emergency department that serves approximately 25,000 patients per year, as well as the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center a provider of leading-edge chemotherapy and radiation therapy, among other cancer services. ECU Health Beaufort also offers general medical and surgical services, operative services, a womens birthing center, rehabilitation services and outpatient clinics.

Minimum Requirements
- Rising Health Sciences Academy Senior is required.
- Must be in current good standing as a Health Sciences Academy member.
- Minimal weighted GPA of 3.0.
- Acceptable Criminal Background Check and acceptable disciplinary and attendance history.
- Ability to work 12-15 hours/week including evenings, weekends and holidays for minimum of 360 hours (not including summer hours worked) prior to completion of the internship.
- Anatomy and Physiology is preferred.
