Your Mission:
As a Primary Operator for Shoreline Restoration at Ecotone, your mission is to expertly operate heavy equipment—primarily excavators and skid loaders—to construct nature-based shoreline stabilization projects that restore coastal ecosystems and improve water quality. You'll play a critical role in clearing, grading, and implementing living shoreline and bioengineering solutions with precision, efficiency, and safety.
The ideal candidate brings proven experience in tight-access excavation, thrives in challenging conditions such as muddy terrain and variable weather, and has a deep respect for environmentally sensitive work zones. Our projects demand focus, adaptability, and strong spatial awareness. This is a year-round position with steady work and occasional opportunities for overtime.
This position requires regular travel to job sites, most of which are located 1 to 4 hours from our office in Cockeysville, MD. When overnight stays are necessary, comfortable accommodations will be arranged, and you will receive per diem compensation added to your regular pay.
Outcomes You Will Deliver:
- Safely and skillfully operate excavators, skid steers, loaders for shoreline stabilization and erosion control.
- Manage ingress and egress of materials on site
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on equipment and on site
- Interpret construction drawings and grading plans to implement structures
- Work closely with project managers, foremen, and restoration technicians to meet construction goals and timelines.
- Perform daily equipment checks, routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting.
- Maintain job site cleanliness, safety standards, and environmental compliance.
Who You Are:
- 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment (excavators).
- Ability to work in and around water, including tidal environments
- Able to read and follow design plans and specifications
- Familiarity with living shoreline practices
- Proficient in reading grading plans and executing precise excavations and contours
- Stream restoration, storm water experience is a plus
- Must be positive, flexible, strong teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors in variable weather and terrain conditions.
- Clean driver's license
- Reliable source of transportation
- Drug test and background check required
