Position Summary: The Roll Off & Tanker Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of roll off and tanker trucks to support waste transportation services for residential and commercial Clients. This role includes navigating a variety of job site conditions, performing routine inspections, and ensuring timely, high-quality service delivery. The Driver is expected to operate equipment safely, maintain compliance with all regulations, and represent the company professionally in all Client interactions. This position requires regular outdoor work in varying conditions and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and emergency response as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate roll off and tanker trucks in residential, commercial, and high-traffic environments, including congested roadways, job sites, and confined areas.
- Complete assigned routes and tasks efficiently while delivering high-quality Client service.
- Transport materials and waste in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and overall appearance of assigned vehicles to company standards.
- Identify and report mechanical or operational issues to management in a timely manner.
- Accurately complete work orders, time entries, and required documentation.
- Maintain organization of equipment, materials, and job-related records.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early starts, overtime, and emergency response.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain accountability for personal safety and contribute to a safe environment for employees, Clients, and the public.
- Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training programs as required.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with Clients, team members, and management.
- Maintain professionalism and represent the company positively in all interactions.
- Report job progress, issues, and risks to management in a timely manner.
- Work independently to prioritize tasks while supporting team operations as needed.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and company initiatives as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Prior experience operating commercial vehicles.
- Valid Class B CDL required; Class A CDL required for any tractor-trailer operations.
- Tanker (N) endorsement required.
- Hazmat (H) endorsement preferred; required if transporting regulated hazardous materials.
- OSHA 40 HAZWOPER and OSHA 10 Construction preferred or wiliness to obtain upon hire.
Technical & Safety Competence
- Strong understanding of safe driving practices and regulatory compliance.
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to identify and assist in troubleshooting minor equipment issues.
- Basic computer skills for time entry and work order completion.
- Must consent to background checks, drug screenings, and project vetting requirements.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead and supervise field crews effectively.
- Maintain a strong work ethic, accountability, and reliability in all aspects of the role.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude and represent the company appropriately.
- Ability and willingness to reliably report to the shop location and work flexible, non-standard hours, including responding to operational and emergency needs as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Perform physically demanding work including frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and work in awkward or confined spaces for extended periods and on uneven terrain.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights as required by assignment.
- Ability to wear required PPE for the duration of each assignment, including safety vest, hard hat, steel-toed boots, gloves, and respiratory protection as required.
