Position Summary
We are seeking Asbestos Abatement Workers to perform hands-on asbestos removal and remediation tasks on projects in Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA. The Asbestos Abatement Worker carries out abatement work under the direction of a certified supervisor, following site-specific work plans and regulatory requirements to ensure safe, compliant, and timely completion of projects.
Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily abatement tasks on residential, commercial, and industrial sites under supervisor direction.
  • Follow OSHA standards, EPA NESHAP, and state-specific asbestos rules
  • Oregon: adhere to Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) guidance and licensing requirements for abatement work.
  • Washington: follow Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) rules and Department of Ecology guidance for abatement practices.
  • Assist with setup and teardown of containment systems, negative-pressure units, decontamination units, and site barricades.
  • Remove asbestos-containing materials using approved techniques and hand tools, maintaining proper wet methods and dust suppression.
  • Operate and maintain HEPA-filtered vacuum systems, negative air machines, and other site equipment as directed.
  • Don, use, and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection according to company protocols; participate in fit-testing and PPE inspections as required.
  • Follow decontamination procedures for personnel and equipment; ensure proper bagging, labeling, and staging of asbestos waste.
  • Assist with air monitoring preparation and cooperate with industrial hygienists or third-party monitoring personnel during sampling.
  • Participate in on-the-job training, toolbox talks, and safety briefings; follow site safety plans and report hazards or incidents promptly.
  • Work cooperatively with team members, clients, and supervisors to complete projects on schedule while upholding safety and quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of required asbestos abatement worker training as recognized by federal and state regulations (EPA-accredited training or state-approved asbestos worker course).
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year experience in asbestos abatement or related construction/demolition work preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of asbestos-safe work practices, containment methods, wet techniques, and PPE usage.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, maintain attention to detail, and work reliably in a team setting.
  • Physically able to perform manual labor, lift moderate weights, kneel, crouch, and work in confined or awkward spaces while wearing PPE and respirators.
  • Willingness to participate in respirator fit-testing and medical surveillance as required by company policy.

Preferred

  • Prior asbestos abatement experience with proven competency in safe removal techniques.
  • Certifications or coursework in respiratory protection, OSHA safety training (OSHA 10 or 30), and other relevant safety credentials.
  • Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, and a commitment to learning and following best practices.
